Pros: -Bery compact. - Lowest price. It is cheapest vga to S-Video gadget. - Totally funcional. I tested all functions. - All cables needed are inside. - Very simple installation. - USB powered. - Plenty of stuff that could be needed in the box. - Really Better than I expected. Works with any VGA output.

Cons: I see it fragile. Build quality is not the great, but what you can expect for this price.

Other: I really surprised how easy to use and the quality with which transmits. It allowed continue using my old tv. Very good device.

Pros: Works like a charm. It is very easy to hook up this converter. Fine resolution. You can use Composite, S video and VGA out at the same time. Zoom picture without a menu. Moove picture throuhg menu.

Cons: Build quality is not the great, but what you can expect for this price, right? It looks little bit clunky... but it works.

Other: If you need gadget which could send picture from your lap top or desk top PC to your old analog TV, this could be interesting device. If you need it - buy it.

Pros: The resolution is quite good, better than I expected.

Cons: I'm a bit afraid of the quality of the cords, seems ok now, hope will work after 1 year as well. But you know for this mony totally worth it.

Other: Always read the manual, before you install it, because there's more in it, than you would expect.

  • The cheapest one

    posted by sw5guilherme on 09:07:37 G3T 07/03/2012 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: The smallest one i've seen.
Works with any VGA output, which is not true when you buy that VGA-RCA cables (e.g SKU 9812).
You don't need to find a power plug, because it's USB powered.
    Really cheap,

Cons: Image is blurry and sometimes noisy. You can watch a video, but it's not confortable to read webpages or any text in small fonts like 12pt or 10pt.

Other: If your notebook video out is VGA only, and you have a CRT TV (the old ones), it's preety useful.

  • Ok alternative for TV-out

posted by eNdEmiOn on 08:34:47 G10T 02/10/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Got this little gizmo to keep being able to use my old TV hooked up to the PC trough s-video or composite cabling.
    - The device works OK.
    - USB powered.
    - Plenty of stuff that could be needed in the box.

Cons: - Every time I reboot my pc I have to reconnect the device. Otherwise the signal gets completely distorted.
    - The secondary VGA out is pretty much useless. If you use it the signal strength weakens severely mostly noticeable in a severe drop in brightness (even when the screen is set to its max).
    - The on screen menu is only displayed over s-video/composite even if you use the secundary vga. Haven't been able to use it as my TV sits in another room.

Other: Ok alternative for TV-out as new GPU's no longer feature this. But if you often use it and don't have a server like pc (so daily or more start-ups) look for something else unless you like reconnecting the device every time.

  • A Good Choice

Pros: Things I would have liked to have known before I bought this are:
    - it really is tiny, quite a bit smaller than I expected (a good thing)
    - the s-video and tv outputs appear to both be on permanently, at least on my unit
    - I tried a bunch of different resolutions and found the clearest signal for text to be 800x600 at 60Hz, best for videos to be 1024x768 at 60Hz.
    - and most importantly, IT WORKS WITH MY LATE-2009 MACBOOK PRO.

Cons: Highest output frequency is 60Hz (if you care). The manual truly is hopeless, but as there are only 2 switches with 2 states each it's not exactly rocket science.
The most confusing thing about this device for me was that it seems to be dual-purpose: VGA to video and s-video is what I bought it for (and it works), but from the box you would think that it only does the reverse, i.e. video and s-video to VGA.

Other: I recommend this unit highly. Perfect at the price.

Pros: Very compact and easy to use. No power adapter needed. No driver instalation needed. Cables with good size. High resolution support (1280*1024px @ 60Hz). Works on linux! (Tested on Fedora 14).

Cons: Price. You can find cheaper. No DVI. No Component Video.

Other: Very good product. I'm really satisfied. If you have a old TV and want to watch your movies and/or series from your PC or notebook on it, buy this! =)

  • Good Converter

posted by moosettner on 22:35:14 G3T 28/03/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: This converter works for showing movies on my old TV which doesn't have an digital connection. Actually, my laptop only has a VGA out as well, so there was no way to use it to show movies on the TV. The converter works well with reasonalbe color and resolution.

Cons: Manual is weak. Lots of cables needed to make the connections. Converter is powered with included USB adapter, VGA cable also included for laptop to converter, and S-Video & RCA video cable also included for connecting converter to TV. No Audio cable included which needs to be connected as well directly from laptop to TV in order to get sound.

Other: This was a great solution for my needs, despite the messy connections.

    - Well built, does not look like cheap.
    - You do not need any energy adapter to use this converter.

Pros: I have a Dell Inspiron notebook and it does not have a video output. If you are using datashows anda new tv sets, no problem: all of them has a vga input. But i need to use it with old tv sets, that only uses video input (like rca cables). For me this is the most easy and cheap solution.

Cons: You have to use a usb cable to power (a cable more...) and i guess that the case is not really the best you see in life. But it works.

Other: It works. Its solves your problem with no video output on your computer or laptops.
