Pros: The price is very good, The product is well protected with the plastic protection. you can program it with avrdude (name of the programer: usbasp, port: usb)

Cons: It doesn't work directly. You have to flash the microcontroller of the device with another programmer (stk500 for example ...). you can find it here http://www.fischl.de/usbasp/ you have to put a new jumper on J1 pins are missing) while flashing the device (firmware upgrade). It is not reconized by AVR studio, but you can add a new tool (a kind of shortcut for executing avrdude). check it here: http://www.atmel.no/webdoc/atmelstudio/atmelstudio.section.csl_qbq_kc.html

Other: A very good material for the price, recomended !

Pros: Firstly, the price: unbeatable!. And size: very small, almost like a pen drive.. I comes with a protective plastic, very convenient in order not to touch the componentes. It works in Linux pretty well.

Cons: The firmware is old. It can be solved by upgrading it.

    Other: Nice purchase, totally recommended.

  • Find driver, download, install and programmer works nicely

    posted by Bontz07 on 10:08:33 G4T 17/04/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: This product is very, very cheap! Programmer was packed in bubble-plastic, received undamaged. Programmer itself seems very sturdy. It is small, very compact programmer!

Cons: Major problem is the driver. You will have to find one, download and install it. As a newcomer it took few days to find correct driver and get this thing working. But if you don't know how to work you can always ask and search internet. At this price it shouldn't be a problem.

Other: Recommend! Needs bit of work to find drivers and get it working, but its worth it, trust me.

  • Best for the price

Pros: Small device connecting directly in the USB port. It also include the cable to connect to your device. In win7/8 I installed the USBasp driver and it works very well.

Cons: Driver from USBasp is not signed and is harder to make it working in Windows 8

Other: Good product for the price.

  • USBASP and AVRDOPER compatible

posted by ossodx on 09:13:19 G4T 07/04/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: well packed - foam and ESD protection bag. Works out of the box. It has old USBASP software inside, but can be programmed with new one. Just short circuit J1 on the board and connect it to other programmer - then you can upload new firmware to it. J4 should work for lower ISP clock selection. J2 is to connect power between USB and ISP - to power target if necessary. If you flash it with AVRDOPER firmware ( build for USBASP hardware ) then J4 works for selection between COM port emulator and HID device mode.

Cons: Jumpers are not in 2,54*2,54 rastnest, so you have to solder three ( or just two, since one is already on pcb ) independend jumpers.

Other: Wel done and working, good package. I will buy more if needed.

Pros: It is very good built and has a transparent cover to protect from short-circuit and other damages. Drivers are downloaded auto in Win7 and as soft i use eXtreme Burner- AVR. It has a long ribbon cable that can be detach if you want to use in different ways.

Cons: You don't have any instructions drivers or software, but for a hobbyst that's not an obstacle.

Other: It is a very good product.

Pros: It has very good quality, better than expected for this price. Come inside a transparent shrink tube so there is no danger of short circuit. Very useful for my Arduino projects.

Cons: I can´t find any cons for these product since it does it´s jobs.

Other: good solder quality, has labels on silk mask so you can´t confuse about pins.

  • Great little device

posted by ludio on 17:35:39 G1T 29/01/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Solid and sturdy. Clean solder joints. Comes with clear shrink tubing over pcb, and footlong-or-so ribbon cable with 10-pin connector on each end.

Cons: None so far. It seems to do exactly what it is advertised to do. One wish, though. My original unit (from a different vendor) came with holes where you could solder pins to the unit and plug it in directly to a solderless breadboard, thus bypassing the need for the cable. This one only has the cable option. Not a big deal, though since you can easily make an adapter.

Other: I already owned one of these from a different vendor. It's been beaten up quite a bit (USB connecter wearing out and getting loose) so I wanted a replacement before my original one died. Very happy with this unit.

  • Great!

posted by gkusou on 03:45:06 G12T 03/12/2012 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Uses usbasp firmware, so just need to install the drivers. Worked on Win7 x64 and Linux 12.04 (tested). Comes with flat cable and have a jumper to send power to the target device from the USB.

Cons: Drivers need to be downloaded (http://www.fischl.de/usbasp). Could not find the documentation or schematic for this programmer, so there is no easy way to update the firmware. You should have a USB port near the target, which is complicated for a desktop pc, but ok for a notebook.

Other: It is a clone, but well built and seems reliable. Worth the money!
