  • Robust case

Pros: This case is more robust than other more cheaper and flimsy cases. I tried to bend the case and it was impossible. Also is bigger/longer than the cheap ones. The hard disk can be secured with 4 screws. It includes a small phillips screwdriver. It works perfectly on any 2.5 SATA harddisk. It has a LED to show data transfer (single color led). It has a 2 "head" USB conector to allow it to run the HDD on low power USB ports or old computers that dont give enough power to start the HDD. Includes a "leather" pouch.

Cons: The USB cable is not very common. Single color LED. No insulation below the HDD, you should put a sheet of something.

Other: Recommended SATA 2.5 case for the money. Better than the cheaper ones!

Pros: - The item is very compact - Do not heat - Is very cheap when you compare to other goog quality products - it do not use an external power supply, just uses the usb power.

Cons: - The cover should be fixed by a button or something like that, just it.

Other: - I bought this item 9 months ago, had no problems with it since them and hope to keep without problems.

  • Old hard disk back to life!!!

posted by Mattttie on 03:57:23 G10T 04/10/2012 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: - The casing is solid, nothing to say about this! - a Y usb splitter when the drive has not enough power is in the box. - straight forword to install the hard disk, nothing to worry about. - does what it has to do - no drivers needed!

Cons: - nothing? :-) - the leather case provided is not that good... but hey, what do you want for the price, and the case is solid alu so... also nothing to worry about!

Other: When you have some old disks and you want some extra ulta-portable disk space, this is the thing you must have!

  • good product if you need it

posted by rioachim on 00:42:11 G8T 13/08/2012 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: - it worked for more than a year. I have previously bought http://dx.com/p/9478 and that one did not last - the wire is durable - the heat dissipation is ok

Cons: - all wires come with an extra USB plub for extra current supply. I never used it, for me it works by plugging just one of the USB plugs - I do not like the 2 screws that tighten inside the plastic. I would have liked a clamp closing system

Other: - I would buy again if I needed one IDE enclosure

  • strange usb connector

    posted by sjev1 on 06:29:08 G10T 15/10/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Cheap, small form factor. Aluminium casing is robust and good looking. The package includes all you need, even a screw driver.

Cons: Normally you would encounter a mini-usb on the drive. This one has the same type of usb port as the pc, so youl always need to carry the supplied cable with you.
Build quality could be better, the drive fits loosely inside the enclosure.

Other: works, but special cable is an annoyance.

  • Worth it's weight in gold

posted by angrysausagedog on 03:44:09 G6T 28/06/2011 certificated customer

    Pros: • Very strong enclosure.
    • The price is awesome.
    • Great for rescuing important files from those old IDE drives.
    • Perfect of running live linux distros on any PC on the fly
    • Plug & play, no drivers needed
    • USB 2.0 - nice and fast
    • The duel socket cable allows you to run it on older computers and laptops with USB 1.0 ports
(I actually plug the second power socket into my iPhone wall charger to give it the extra power, So i don't have to use up my other USB ports)
    • Can quite easily handle being turned on 24/7

Cons: • There is no padding inside to shock protect your drives.
I fixed this by wrapping one of those postal style red rubber bands around each end of my drive before sliding it in.
    • The screws will eventually strip the plastic they screw into if you are constantly removing and replacing the drives.
I fixed this by just sourcing some slightly wider and longer screws.
    • Slides around a little when you are transferring files due to vibration from the drive, it could use a stand or some rubber feet, but not a big problem at all.

Other: If you need a long lasting basic 2.5" HDD enclosure and you have a very tight budget, this is perfect.

  • one good purchase

posted by spenki on 03:47:00 G3T 07/03/2011 certificated customer

Pros: - easy to assemble, you'll have a working S-ATA external drive in minutes. - very lite, nice looking enclosure

Cons: - after months of use I can hear a rattle from inside of the enclosure, the side screws loosen up so the drive touches the enclosure when transporting, but it's a minor thing and can be eliminated easily

Other: Beside the rattle and cable comment it's a great drive enclosure with good performance per buck. Plus if you're a proud owner of an IBM laptop or desktop it fits perfectly because of the colour ;)

  • Works and its cheap

Pros: Very nice device. I had an extra 30GB drive that came out of an old laptop and it popped right in and was working. I have not had any trouble from the drive or the enclosure device at all.

Cons: Does not come with a stand. I like External drives to be standing and while this doesnt matter in the least for the functionality, it is something the enclosure did not come with.

Other: If you have an extra drive, get it. Its a nice device and works when you need it. It also works on only 1 USB port but I always used it on 2 just in case.

  • IS NOT A "SATA" ENCLOSURE, IS AN "IDE" ENCLOSURE.-

posted by chiquiviveros on 05:30:16 G10T 12/10/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: I can't use because I have a SATA HDD, and the enclosure accepts IDE HDD.

Cons: In the overview says: "Accepts all 2.5" hard disk (SATA only)".-
In the specifications says: "PC Requirements
    - Laptop 2.5-inch hard drive
    - Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP
    - Available USB port
    - Accept SATA only"
But this is an "IDE" (ATA) HDD Enclosure. Please try to change this, because I bought it thinking that is a SATA enclosure.

    Other: Bad information.-

posted by LokiDeth on 15:11:08 G9T 23/09/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Easy to use, even comes with its own screwdriver. assembly is less then 5 min (using a small child to do it in five min). Have one that i bought from another location just over a year ago that cost me over double the price.

Cons: once the drive was in place to slide it in the enclosure you have to wiggle the drive (my experience). comes with a "tri" USB cable so if using it in say a wii or ps2/3 it won't recognize.

Other: if you wanna breath life into an old PATA laptop drive that's sitting around buy this enclosure.
