Pros: Small cheap modem to pack with my netbook.
Useful for dialup alarms, programming old PABXs etc.Had mo problems with the drivers in XP or Win7, automaticlly found the drivers on the Microsoft site for Win7.
Haven't tried the FAX part, who uses fax anymore.

Cons: no on board speaker, well none that I've heard.

Other: Handy for those times when dialup is required either for data or DTMF, and fax is thrown in for free.

  • It Works in ALL Windows, Incuding the 7

Pros: Some rewiwers state they could not make it work on the seven. Maybe a little lack of knowledge, eh? It installed on the first try on Windows 7, on a notebook (CHEAP, old dual core) but it had already some drivers installed. Then I tried on a clean machine and it tried not to install. I tried a few old drivers and it worked OVER an Motorola driver, also worked OVER a CONEXANT driver. But you must use the included CD too! The win 7 database does not judge what you have installed. (and it DOES NOT HAVE the data on the CD) I hope you have sucess installing this little marvel because NO notebook today comes with a dialup modem. I live in a farm where broadband is farther than my expected lifetime. So, I needed this device working. And NEED is still a great teacher. Have fun!

Cons: None that I can see until now.

Other: I ordered 10 extra pieces while they still have it. (I may sell and install a few and get mine free!)

  • Looks boring but works well

Pros: Great little modem. Has Rx and Tx lights and has higher throughput than other new chipsets. Solid build quality.

Cons: Based on an older chipset (Smartlink). This chipset is no longer formally supported by the company that bought it, so no new drivers are published. Existing drivers work well, but are not digitally signed. Windows XP and Vista 32 bit will whine, and 64 bit Vista and Windows 7 won't work unless you disable driver signing enforcement.

Other: It's a little pain that you have to disable driver signing every time you want to use it, but you only have to do this at boot time. I get better throughput with this modem that one with the newer AT&T/Agere/LSI chipset.

  • NO WIN7 Drivers

Pros: It is small and comes with a phone cable I got it working on windows XP.

Cons: It doesn't come with windows7 drivers and there's no company website you can get it from. For me, its good for garbage!

Other: Don't buy it if you have WIN 7 You get for what you pay. Buying from CHN is like lottery....you may win or you may loose.
