  • Blasting loud horn!

Pros: This horn is the ultimate Human Powered Alarm. A good push and a LOUD sound is heared. On my bike, I use this as the last warning, after the gentle ring, ring and the somewhat louder electronic horn. If in need, this Air Horn definitely attracts attention. When for whatever reason you want more distance between plunger and actual horn, the tube is quite easily replaced with something elsee. Good to create distance between the horn and your own ears :)

Cons: The tube is quite wide, which results in a significant dead volume in the tube. That means that you have to push the plunger quite a bit before you have built enough pressure to get the sound. Also the plunger is a bit loose, which means that if you push slowly, the air escapes before you hear anything.

Other: If you are aware of the potential downsides, this is a great product that I would happilyl recommend to others. Might mine eventually break down, I will buy a replacement (and change the tube myself).

  • Superloud Air Horn

posted by benitocarles on 09:14:48 G12T 10/12/2011 certificated customer

Pros: - It never runs out of air
    - It's really loud, don't put it near ears cause it'll hurt
    - It has a solid metal construction
    - It has a reasonable weight

Cons: - It should have some more attachments to make it easy to install on a bicycle or other place
    - The silicon tube could be a little longer
    - The air pump could be longer too, in order to have a more constant beeping

Other: Although it needs some improvements, this is a good deal for an air horn. Been using it on my bicycle and on protests. Sound is perfect.

  • My loud horn

Pros: Very loud indeed. I bought this to use in open fields when my club scores! I'll paint and customise with the colors black and white with a cross in the middle. I wouldnt use this in a bike but its ok.
    :)

Cons: Heavy material but that doesnt mean this horn is strong. You must press the level strongly to get the sound. The plastic part could be better.
Paint job wasnt complete. Mine came in a box all wrecked but I could not blame DX for that, maybe its for the distance, travel and all.

Other: I'll finish the painting and customise mine so it wont be that bad.

  • Never runs out of air.

Pros: It never runs out of air and its quality is good ,compared to other air horns. I tried, other air horns on the market, they required air pumps or gas and needed tons of maintenance. It makes a perfect deterrent against dumb drivers trying to scare you with their car horns.

Cons: My air horn worked well until my bike fell on it and it broke into pieces.I tried to fix it with super glue and it kept falling apart,it wasn't as loud as it was before it fell and broke.

Other: It would be better ir they fitted the air horn with stronger parts.

  • The Good, The Bad and the HORNY

posted by veryperson on 08:39:45 G2T 28/02/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: This horn is loud enough for use in busy streets around cars and buses. It will get you noticed. The lever looks bulky but it's easy to press softer or harder to get different sounds. That's about it for the pros.

Cons: This horn didn't come with any mounting hardware, the bolts and nuts shown on the pictures didn't come with mine. Actually, I doubt it was even designed to be mounted on a bike in the first place, but it is doable with a lot of creativity. *** DO NOT USE IN RAIN *** Don't let a single drop of water get in there or it's over. I did and now it's useless. I opened it, cleaned and relubed the pump, dried the horn and there's nothing to do. Dead, caput.

Other: Buy it if you think you can figure out a way to mount it. You will find it very amusing to use! But DON'T USE DURING RAINY DAYS.

  • It's loud!

posted by MrSkyline on 14:48:11 G10T 07/10/2009 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: * It does as promised, and does it very loud! * The metal housing for the pump is very well build, the horn itself is made out of plastic, but that shouldn't be a problem, the parts on the inside of the horn are made out of metal.

Cons: * It doesn't come with screws, and without the shiny box. * Its as loud a truck horn, but it doesn't sound like one.

Other: Great product, if you use a bike to get around and you hate it when car drivers ignore you, are blocking your way or don't see you coming, just honk the horn.

  • BLAST those trucks so they don't smash into you.

    posted by trev1 on 18:01:11 G10T 03/10/2009 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: low price when compared to products that use a bottle of compressed air to blast the horn. ALWAYS ready when you need it in an emergency. No batteries to go flat, no compressed air storage tank to lose pressure. It is REALLY loud. :)

Cons: no installation instructions, no bicycle mounting brackets. PVC air hose tends to kink and crimp shut making less sound level when plunger is pressed (a rubber hose would be better). Weighs a little bit more than some other alternatives. It is SO loud that it might badly startle nearby pedestrians. Suggest fitting a simple bell AS WELL for non emergency use to be polite to other people.

Other: If you have ever worried about getting squashed by a truck that didn't see you, this is the best alternative for you! I've paid more money for electric and compressed air storage horns only to find that when I needed to blast the horn in an emergency the batteries where flat or the stored air had leaked away. For your own safety, GET ONE!
