  • Great little USB WIFI adapter

posted by BlackSharkBR on 11:46:46 G3T 26/03/2013 certificated customer

    Pros: => Works very well

Cons: => The plastic cover feels a little on the cheap side, but it didn't crack or dried with the years of usage.

Other: It is a great USB wifi adapter. I have been using it for 2 and 1/2 years now. The price is very affordable and works flawlessly under Windows XP and Windows 7. It has a pretty decent performance for basic home networking like sharing files or printing, and is easy to install. On XP, you will need to have the driver before hand to make it work, but it's very simple: just point the driver and you are set. On Windows7, it's installed automatically. The wifi chipset is a Realtk RTL8188SU. Never had any hedaches with it: the connection is steady and never drops, even after long periods with the computer on - 10+ hours. I totally advice to buy it.

Pros: Product easy to install in PCs or other type of computer needs a wireless connection, given its location that prevents using a cable connection.

Cons: I bought thinking of using a LCD TV from Samsung brand, connect it to the Internet, a fact that did not work, because the TV only accepts the Samsung product and high cost. The company that makes this product should use this thinking

Other: I'll be hoping to change the product for use in televisions to buy another. Let's see if the company will read this review and alter the product.

  • Cheap - Good - Easy

Pros: Well, it is cheap and small. I plugged it in and installed the driver from the disc that comes with it and it has worked without any problems. I don't even notice its there. Except for that the wifi works ;) Well and when I look behind the pc it has a green light, but not that bright. So I don't think it would be annoying even if placed visible. It also connect quickly to the internet so no problems there either.

Cons: None that I've found so far. It works really well.

Other: Worth the money as long as it work for a few months. For this kind of money one can't expect too much. But if I don't have to think about a product connected to my pc and it just does its job in the background, and it doesn't cost more than this, then I think it's a great product.

  • Works good on Ubuntu 10.10

posted by canalejo on 10:50:11 G1T 24/01/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: The adapter is really small, and it works fine. No problems with ubuntu 10.10 OS installation following the readme of drivers for linux. The adapter is heated a bit but I've solved using a cable extending usb port. This way does not receive the laptop heat

Cons: the range is not as good as you could hope for, but on the other hand quite good the size of the product.

Other: A good buy. Be satisfied

Pros: It uses a fairly standard chipset (Ralink RT5370) is it is no problem having it running on even on Linux. I have also used on a NAS that is quite picky about the range of accepted Wifi dongle and it worked first time.

Cons: As others said, the dongle gets quite hot. I may try to rehouse the chip to a bigger shell (e.g. from a dead USB memory stick)

Other: It's so tiny that it's good to keep one around in case there is a quick need for wireless connectivity.

  • Works fine once drivers are installed

posted by mgchu on 12:59:27 G10T 10/10/2012 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: This device is quite small, so it's good for travel purposes or just as a plug-in-and-forget device for a desktop PC with no built-in WiFi. Once the driver was installed, it worked well for me on a Windows XP box. Personally, I think the price is alright (not great) since I had not heard of this company EDUP prior to purchasing the item.

Cons: Huge con is the driver for Windows. The device comes with a mini-CD with drivers packed for Windows, Mac and Linux. For Windows, it's an .exe file that you must run, and I tried it many times with no success. I downloaded the 30MB package from the English EDUP website, and was able to point the OS to that for installing the drivers.

Other: Once it's installed properly, it is working well. Not sure if I'd buy it again though - I'd rather purchase a WiFi device that does not need special drivers (so I can plug it into any machine and it'll work right away)

Pros: Super performance even with 24/7 useage. - Impressive that this little puppy handles all the major wi-fi bands and not just b/g. Works out of the box on many OS (Win 2000, XP, Vista, Ubuntu 10.10) - Windows 7 had to do a bit of soul searching to agree with the drivers ;) - Small - Solid -

Cons: I haven't seen any performance or longevity issues form this, but if you are using on a small portable device it would indicate that it is going to consume battery life a fair bit. - Easy to lose because it is so tiny perhaps? - No real cons, a couple of observations others might find useful... - It does heat up a bit as some have said.

    Other: All Ok!

Pros: The device works with linux Debian (kernel 3.1).
    Easy to set up.
It has a tough construction and the price is good.

    Cons: It gets really warm.
The wifi range is very low as the antenna is embeeded on the chip board (no external antenna). You can solve this soldering a copper string to the board to gain some range.
The plastic wrap is really big, the inner chip is very little.
Transfer rate is not as high as other USB wifi adapters, it is fair.

Other: It works with linux, what else you want?

  • Does the job

Pros: - Works great with Windows(xp and vista) and Ubuntu
    - Small
    - Very cheap
    - No problem reciving even in other rooms or second floor.

Cons: - It get very hot, the plastic on mine has started to melt after 6-7 months of heavy use.
    - When overheated "it slows down"

Other: I have three of those and one has been in heavy use for 6-7 months now. Today it died (probably because of heat). The two others havent been used as heavy and are still working perfect.
Anyway, for this price its a good buy, it does the job quite good and I am very pleased.
