  • Very good, battery-free, radio

Pros: A normal radio. Long went right. It's a safe and sound, in the industrial packaging. Everything works fine. Sound is clean, not hi fi but for such devaysa quite decorous. Pleasant to the touch, visual inspection "stocks" were found. Admission confident even with the folded antenna (in the apartment on the 9th floor). Recharged by solar panels and from the handle properly. from an external power supply have not tried

    Cons: none

Other: nice radio, i'll buy it another again for a gift

Pros: Excellent. I could receive > 50 stations in Alkmaar. Both solar charger and crank charger work well. Simple to use.

Cons: Sound quality is rough. Not a good buy if hi-fidelity is your thing!

Other: Seems like a very handy thing to have around. Of course, in our modern, internet-driven world, the analogue radio is becoming obsolete, but should you be planning on a stay in the wilderness, or putting together a survival kit, this would be invaluable.

Pros: Seems like good build quality. Reception is good. Crank feels solid when used. Telescope antenna is long enough to catch all the "wonderful waves" in the air (Cited from the manual)

Cons: The tuning button is a bit tight when turning, but it works.

Other: The radio seems as really great value for the money. I'll put this radio in my survival-bag, and I think I'll order one more as a gift!

  • Best radio ever!

Pros: This portable radio is made of a very nice-touching material and is build well. Nothing on it will disclose the country of origin because it is a high-quality made product! The awesomeness of this radio is that it has an infinite source of power - you can charge it in any way you want - either from sun/light or from USB port or even by hand! Radio has two LEDs that indicate working (green) and charging (blue). The quality of signal receiver is good. Volume's good too. Easy to use. Has dual band selector.

    Cons: None.

Other: An awesome portable radio with an "infinite power source" - you'll lways be able to listen to the radio whererver you are! Must have!

  • nice little radio

posted by gaboinger on 14:25:14 G11T 15/11/2012 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Pretty simple radio, works great and gets charged just by sitting on my window. I have not tested the usb charging feature but cranking works ok. small enough to carry it in a jacket pocket or bag

Cons: there will be distortion when listening at maximum volume, but's pretty loud for listening from one room to another. fm tuning is pretty sensitive, it's hard to tune to a specific radio in a cluttered fm spectrum

Other: nice radio, i'll buy it another again for a gift

  • Great radio

Pros: I used it camping and received a number or radio stations in Country Australia (Bathurst 1000 race) AM and FM. Good recharge from sunlight and hand cranking if required.

Cons: As a small portal radio not much size is too large for a shirt pocket, I improved this by buying a small camera bag from DX which worked well.

Other: Great little radio well worth buying I am very happy with this product if you want one go for it :)

  • acceptable product

posted by AndrePVB on 09:02:43 G8T 05/08/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: A perfect back-up radio: it is lightweight, does not need batteries, works remarkably long on a one minte crank (much longer than the indicated 20 minutes). fairly small as well, so easy to store somewhere or keep in your emergency kit or backpack. It has a small indicator light which assure you when you ahve enough light and the device is charging. you do not need masses of light. normal daylight will do, even indoors near a window.

Cons: Of course you will not expect super-hifi sound for this price. But actually the sound quality surprised me, it s acceptable. As a result of it's size it is somewhat sensitive to reception disturbances, but certainly not in a way that hinders good usage of the product.

Other: Very acceptable. buy as a back-up device. I will personally replace it with the same product if a replacement is needed.

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

    Pros: Good build-quality
    It looks sturdy
It has all the functions you need
Small size, easy to carry with you
    No batteries needed.
it has three possible power inputs: solar, usb or manual labor

Cons: The frequencies may be a little close to eachother, making it a little hard to find your favorite channel.

Other: Buy it if you want to be ensured of radio access in case of a power/internet outtage and/or if you want a easy-to-carry radio for your hiking trips.

  • Solar Power/Hand Crank Radio

posted by Deezee on 11:46:06 G5T 29/05/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: + Nice small portable size. Picture from DX is a bit deceiving, as it appears bigger than it actually is (as other reviewer noted) - see picture with camera and measuring tape for actual reference.
+ Nice "velvet" touch to the plastic casing.
+ Solid feel with solid controls. The AM/FM switch looks better than in the DX picture. The switch feels solid.
+ 3 way power source: solar, hand crank or USB charge available (comes with USB cable).
+ Blue LED charge light comes on when in the sun or when charging by USB (see picture) or by hand crank.

Cons: - Green LED light comes on when station is tuned in. Not sure if this actually uses up more power(?).
    - Missing a "0" on the AM station label (eg. 53 should be 530).
    - Tuning control does not allow for very fine tuning. May have trouble tuning into stations that are close together, as other reviewer noted. But if you live in a smaller city, not close to any other cities with strong signals, then it should be fine.
    - The solar panel has a slight downward slope towards the face of the radio. So if you want to maximize solar charging while wanting to listen to the radio, there might be a time where the speaker faces away from you (eg. by facing the radio against the window but the speaker is not facing the room).

Other: Not a bad price for a solar powered radio. Other stores may sell for about 50% more and may be bulkier in size.
I've had other crank radios (bought from a national stationary store) but the crank broke after a short time. There was also a rechargeable plug on that radio but that broke too and the radio was left useless. This radio has a very solid feel so hope this radio lasts!

  • Small, robust, but FM receiver too sensitive

posted by Festus on 17:33:46 G5T 08/05/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Small (palm sized - photos make it look big), well built satin finish plastic casing. Good reception on AM and FM (if FM stations are well separated!) and speaker is quite loud - easily heard at partial volume with little distortion in adjacent rooms. Quite acceptable for background listening. It's on partial volume 2 rooms away and I can hear it clearly. Also an ear phone socket for personal use. Three power options - all well designed. Sturdy handcrank, top mounted solar cells (2?) and a USB socket with separate cable included. Blue LED charge light.

Cons: FM stations difficult to tune unless they're well separated on the band - tuning knob movement far too sensitive. Coarse analog tuning scale doesn't help. It seems to receive 'phantom' FM stations that are actually elsewhere on the band since I'm sure my favourite FM station isn't 'surrounded' by other FM stations on my other FM radios, even cheap novelty ones, but on this receiver it takes a lot of fiddling to get this station clearly. Antenna orientation also affects FM reception much more than my other FM radios.

Other: Small, nice design, strong speaker output, externally well built and versatile. FM reception may be a bit too fiddly for some locations/stations. Otherwise quite acceptable for the price.
