  • For those bigtower builds

Pros: I've build quite a few systems in big tower cases where the PSU is located at the bottom rear of the case, and I've had the same problem with almost every PSU I've used; the SATA power-cables is too short to reach the optical drives in the top drivebay. Especially if you want to route all the cables behind the motherboard-tray for optimal airflow.
This cable is the easiest and cheapest way to deal with the problem.

Cons: The molex pins move around quite a bit in the housing, but I don't really see that as a flaw of any practical consequence apart from making it 5 more seconds to install, and I've found this to be common for the cables supplied with my motherboards as well.
Not the optimal solution if your PSU have a lot of SATA power and only a few molex connectors.

Other: Having a modular PSU with sleeved custom lenght cables for everything is obviously very nice, but if all you want is to be able to connect a drive out of reach of your PSU-cables, these extenders should be as good as any.
I've used 5 of them so far without any issues, but as with any component that can affect data-integrity, you should always test before use.

Pros: This product was exactly what I was looking for, and for under $2.00 at that! The male molex connector fit snuggly with the molex connector on my power supply, providing a reliable connection. The 20 centimetre length proved useful as well.

Cons: No cons at all. Excellent product.

Other: Overall excellent product, and did what it was intended to do. The twenty centimetres length of the cords allowed for me to easily keep everything neat and tidyu inside my tower.

  • Excelent product

Pros: Excelent product, good quality better than those sold in my country (Chile).
The connector to the hard drive is strong, the cables are more rigid than the traditional and the connection to the hard drive is excellent (those sold in my country have a failure that power "on/off" the hard disk repeatedly).

    Cons: None

Other: Producto excelente..los que compré en PCFactory solían soltarse del disco duro haciendo que se "reiniciara" permanentemente (generando problemas de escritura en el disco). Este cable queda conectado 100% fijo y seguro al disco duro...muy bueno.

  • Useful with old psus and for modding,

Pros: * It's an adapter, very hand in lots of situantions, but specially with older power supply units.
** You use both ends for modding, sometimes you need to create specific adapters for an array of hard drives.
*** Very cheap, and even cheaper if you buy a lot.

Cons: * Quality is not that good and in hard drives that is critical, but i have never had any problem of corrupted files duee to the use of an adapter.
** Only 4 wires, native sata uses 3.3v also. I don't know if it stresses the harddrive, but i guess there isn't any problem.
*** It ain't got any sleeving, if DX sold some sleeving it could be modded to be very nice and much more beautiful.

Other: Buy it if you deal with pc hardware, everything now is using sata but psu's have only a limited ammount of sata connetors.

Pros: 20cm from tip to tip - should be sufficient to reach any drive - especially since this is an adapter.

Cons: Not really much longer than the "sata power cable" sku 9809 - ~18cm for that one.
If you're not going to need the length, i suggest checking out the other cable.

Other: Get this or sku 9809 and keep one or two on hand, you never now if you'll need it in the future - and at this price, it's a good filler for an order.
It may be a good idea to keep a few SATA data cables around, too.

Pros: I had to build a computer for a friend, he needed a new HD. However, his PSU didn't have any SATA power plugs. I order a couple of these and what a great idea! At this price, it's a steal. I think I'll order a bunch more just in case!

Cons: Impossible to find any, at this price! I guess only thing is that the length is actually measured including the connectors, so it's 30cm including the length of the connectors.

Other: If you need some, order some. If you think you could need some, order some. Heck, even if you don't need them, you never know!

Pros: When my older model SATA hard drive crashed, I bought a SATA II replacement. This model had the new power connector, and with this SATA Power Cord item, I could use the hard drive.

Cons: The cable isn't 20cm, but the cable including connectors as a whole is 20cm.

Other: Works well, get it if you need it.

Perhaps look at the following item if you need a SATA data cable as well.

  • Essential...erm...if you need it.

Pros: -- Allows you to power a SATA drive when your PSU has only Molex connectors. -- Also functions as a short extension lead.

Cons: -- None really, though if your case is small, or the distance between PSU and drive is short, as it is in my Antec P180, you end up with more wire than you'd ideally like.

Other: If you have a perfectly decent PSU that you don't want to upgrade, but yet you want to install SATA drives, you don't have much choice. That's why this is essential, because there's no other way to make it work. If on the other hand, your PSU is in need of upgrade too, then any modern unit should have plenty of SATA power connectors.
