Pros: It Works really really well, I bought it more than a month ago I use it daily

Cons: It takes two weeks to ship Shipping takes long Cons: This device cannot be modified to swap pins around. The pins are all joined together using a wires which you can't cut and swap around. Cutting the wires would destroy the device and the pins wouldn't be able to stay in place. The wires act like a kind of spring, holding them in place

Other: I recommend this if you need a splitter

Pros: As said by just about anybody else, this is a dumb wire. But if you are doing home electronics, it is useful as the cheapest, and easiest to use, 8-wire Y plug available. I use mine for my bike lighting system.
If you use it for Ethernet as intended, remember to turn on only one of the computers attached to it.

Cons: The pins seem a bit weak, my unit has a bad contact and one of the sockets is dead. Of course, ordering a new unit is cheap, but longish.

Other: Cheap product, but you need to know how to use it.

Pros: This does a perfect job of splitting.

Cons: This device cannot be modified to swap pins around. The pins are all joined together using a wires which you can't cut and swap around. Cutting the wires would destroy the device and the pins wouldn't be able to stay in place. The wires act like a kind of spring, holding them in place

Other: If you want a splitter, it does a great job, and that's all it will do.

  • Spliter for single Ethernet cable

posted by luriahs on 06:33:45 G4T 14/04/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Splits up one single ethernet cable into two for connecting both ends to two different equipment- 2 PCs etc. Useful if you need a permanent connection for two PC with a single modem/router and only one PC-modem connection is used at a time. Build quality is good. Also able to fit in normal RJ-11 phone allows it to be used as a phone spliter too.

    Cons: Limited uses.

Other: I could have gotten it locally but since it cost a little less than what I can get locally, and get it sent to my doorstep at no extra cost, I choose to buy it from DX.

  • Good for only 1 computer at a time

posted by rubybrars on 18:53:49 G4T 10/04/2010 certificated customer

Pros: The price on deal extreme is the cheapest I can find. It can work as both a coupler as well as a splitter at a given time.. The build quality is good for this price I would say.

Cons: It cannot be used with 2 computers at a time if you are using a splitter, only one pc works at a time. The speed drops to 10 Mbps if you even plug in the second pc cable in the splitter.

Other: Good as a coupler for this price. For a splitter its OK not good.

Pros: It will provide you with a female-female multipoint Ethernet extension.

Cons: It will ONLY provide you with a SINGLE female-female Ethernet extension. This is just a plug to parallel the signal (meaning everything is parallel.)

Other: You can't cut the internal connectors to make them 123-6 and 45-78 connectors, the cables are too tiny to re-cut and re-solder. (Yeah, they are not on PCB, only floating side by 0.05mm side as stainless steel wires in air.) I tired to open and what I saw that the inside was very disturbing in an oh-my-god-what-is-this-cheapness kind of way. They're still useful for male-male extension for Ethernet. But too expensive considering the other straight female-female connectors sold in this site.

Pros: First Of, don't buy it unless you know what it does ^^! This is not a hub! Where a router works at OSI level 3, and switches and hubs at level 2, we can say that little thing works at OSI level 1!! It means the electrical signal is copied on both ends from the source. It's straight RJ45, 1-8 to 1-8! Works perfectly, you can even use it as a simple extension coupler sku.2657 !!

Cons: Well some people say one con would be you cannot use it to connect 3 PCs together. But it's not what it's aimed for! So it's not really a con. For its purpose, there's no con.

Other: Real great OSI level 1 device ^^ Unique!

posted by Plexx on 19:55:02 G10T 09/10/2009 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: I haven't seen it mentioned, this will work with phone lines as well. Cheap solution to attach multiple devices without crawling through attics/basements to run additional cables.

Cons: It's only a splitter, only one ethernet device can be used/powered on at a time... but read on for a solution in "other thoughts"... I've ordered six of these, and two were damaged (the pins were bent and don't line up properly). It's not worth the time or effort to go through the RMA process on a $1 item. Order extras if you want to be safe.

Other: Great item, with a little rewiring, REALLY becomes useful.

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

    Pros: Everything clicks in nicely
    compact
    build quality is okay
    hasn't broken yet

Cons: if you plan on playing around with it a lot, this isn't the product for you
if it gets bumped or anything it usually loses connection very very briefly

Other: It's not overly useful, so don't buy it unless you have a particular use for it.
On a sidenote, it does NOT act as a router, so don't even try lol
