  • Great addition to boating navigation

Pros: The supplied software was very easy to install ... but review the manual first! I had a couple of questions about adding GPS to other software...had I read the manual I would have had the answers. Software installs easily, reboot system and GPS was easily added by system. The GPS adds another layer of safety on my sailboat - a very reasonable backup for the on-board chart plotter.

Cons: It did take longer to receive than I expected...but at the price was an acceptable wait. Price point was very good.

Other: Would I buy again ... a solid yes. The GPS works well and when paired with open source mapping application provides a very inexpensive backup to other navigation systems.

Pros: Price is good, its sold construction and works as its supposed to. What else is there to ask for?

Cons: No real ones. You need to stick this at the of a usb extension cable so it won't be near the computer or it won't aqcuire signal.

    Other: Good buy. :)

  • a great SiRF GPS USB

Pros: The item is easy to use since a good program for it to use is also included on the CD. The program use Google maps, so it is preety accuate and fast enough when it is connected and redy. The build quality is realy good and looks professional. It has a LED that shows the status. Users manual is small but well made and simple enough so also a newbie can fast install and begin to se the item.

Cons: The only con in my case is that it took some time to find the satelites, but for that clouds where probably responsible.

Other: Great item for unbeatable price. It is a good thing to have if you want to use your PC as a navigtion unit or just want to get coordinates of the place where you are (good for saving Google photos with coordinates of fascinating places you find)

  • Good GPS receiver

posted by ClientSberbanka on 09:07:58 G5T 17/05/2012 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: + Reasonable price. + Compact. + Uses standard NMEA 0183 protocol. + Uses USB-UART PL-2303 chip which is supported by Windows, Linux and (possibly) Android. + Receives GPS signal in a room near the window well.

Cons: - Supplied software is for setup and test only and not intended for serious use - you need a navigation software with maps to use it. - This receiver works with GPS only - it does not support GLONASS (Russian satellite navigation system) and Galileo (European satellite navigation system). It is awful because GPS satellites are the property of the USA and nobody knows how long they would allow citizens use GPS free of charge. Also there were cases when GPS signal was modified during local wars so a multi-system navigation receiver is better that GPS-only. - This device has a hole for a strap but strap is NOT included. - The USB cap has NO such hole so it is extremely easy to lose it. Maybe I would make a such hole in the cap using a hot needle under ventilation and connect the receiver and the cap with a single strap.

Other: If you need a simple navigation receiver with an USB interface for a notebook, netbook, CarPC or TabletPC and you are not afraid of "keeping all the eggs in a single busket" (Russian proverb) this item is for you.

Pros: For me the positives are much more from the negatives. It is very simple but, perfectly working device. I can tell very good words like:
    +Very easy to install
    +CD includes test software
    +Accurate positioning
    +Fast startup
    +Very good build quality
+Works with every software that i tried
    +Light and compact
    +Low price
+Tracks more that 8 satellites in the same time

Cons: From the day that i had received it i have no cons. The cable is little short, but is not a problem for me.

Other: Very good purchase. For this price you get much more from that you have expected. Buy it you won`t regret that.

Pros: Hard to write reviews about stuff that just works, does what it should and does it well. Without any problems defined satellites and software Garmin Mobile XT (on the car-PC with WinXP32bit) identified the GPS receiver as a mother. Other Software www.pocketgis.biz too easily positioned on the receiver ND-100S.

Cons: Noticed a problem: if the stick ND-100S directly into the laptop, then the satellites are caught long and as a result of their less than it would include GPS receiver at least 20cm from the laptop using a USB extension cable in such a situation the same antenna orintation. Apparently the receiver is rather weak immunity from interference from the computer.

Other: I really liked this GPS receiver. The more that local vendors are selling (trying to sell) these devices is 4-5 times more expensive.

Pros: Connected it directly to my Acer Aspire One, it did not receive any signal; with the short extension, it did not work either but when I added the 2 m length of USB extension, it worked ok - it is then susceptible to RF interference , specially since I have the VGA cable hooked-on - After it connected, 9 satellites were received when the unit was taken away from the netbook, in the open. To test further, I brought the unit close in to the Acer, the number of satelites rapidly went down to nothing.

Cons: Instruction manual could be better

Other: It is a good and sturdy unit for the price

  • Doesn't work on all computers

    posted by jkenny23 on 14:55:24 G11T 09/11/2010 certificated customer

Pros: Reasonably accurate Picks up satellites fairly quickly Software worked on XP, Vista 32-bit, 7 64-bit Simple USB-Serial driver, outputs raw NMEA data to serial terminal

Cons: Does NOT work on my netbook, period: Driver installs fine, software opens, shows NMEA data flowing in, but it will NEVER pick up a satellite. I think it might be due to the GPS depending on the grounding of the laptop as part of the antenna system. It works flawlessly with my HP tablet (which has a mostly metal construction) and acceptably on my old Dell laptop, but I can't pick up a single sat on my netbook. The software is supposedly supposed to show your location on Google maps or similar in a browser to the right of the control panel, but all it does is keep refreshing a blank page for me, also it annoyingly has those "script errors" that you might recall from the days of IE.

Other: Overall, somewhat satisfied with it, I was planning on cracking the case open and using it for electronics projects since it outputs NMEA USART data, but I think I'll keep it for use with my tablet. Disappointed that it won't work on my netbook, real design flaw there. I can't totally recommend it since it only worked well on 1/3 of my computers.

Pros: Good device. Build quality and materials is acceptable. Fairly quickly detects satellites. With good visibility of satellites running quickly and clearly. Has a good set of drivers and an update on the manufacturer's website. Software compatibility is good.

Cons: Need a very good view of the sky. In a car you need to put into the open. No driver installation and support for Android.

Other: Recommend for use with a laptop.
