ND-100 GPS USB Dongle for Mini Laptop (Work with Street & Trips)
- The ND-100 is a compact and portable device, which allows you to carry a GPS receiver for use on your laptop whenever you travel
- The ND-100 requires no battery or cables, only your favorite NMEA compliant navigation software is all that’s needed to turn a laptop into a powerful navigation system
- Bring GPS to your netbook and mini Laptop with this USB GPS Dongle, Plug and Drive!
- By using your laptop its perfect if you want to use sat nav in a caravan, truck or even the car. Your netbook will have a larger screen than most sat nav making your drive a lot safer and easier to use
- Works with Windows, Mac and Linux O/S notebooks/laptops/netbooks/UMPCs. Also works with netbooks like the Asus Eee PC, Asus and Medion netbooks plus more!
- USB GPS Dongle receivers provide standard data for mapping software to use and convert to coordinates. Data from the ND-100 will work well with most software on the market today
- The ND-100 is WAAS/EGNOS capable. With your sat nav software this will give you accurate door to door navigation.
- The GPS requires an open, clear view of the sky. Buildings, covered parking areas, tunnels and dense foliage can cause the GPS receiver to be unable to get a location fix. If you are parked in a covered parking lot or near a tall building, it is recommended that you drive away until you have a clear view of the sky before using the ND-100. You may need to give the GPS a few minutes to find or get a fix at its location.
- The Satellite Navigation software can be used on a Linux system if you uses a Windows API for Linux, see www.winehq.org. You may have to compile a kernel to get this working with Linux which is only advised for advance users.

  • Surprisingly awesome GPS receiver

    posted by superboer12 on 03:46:34 G8T 15/08/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Very easy to use as it is NMEA0183 compatible and offers a USB interface instead of a serial port. Has more than enough channels and always gives me fast fixes. Power usage is low on this modern GPS chip. The Serial to USB convertor chip is very standard in the industry and thus widely supported. Using Linux and GPSd you won't have any problems at all. You can easily modify it to also provide the PPS signal. Google for

Cons: It is sold out at the moment. Not the absolute cheapest one.

Other: Excellent GPS receiver for a fine price which really surprised me!

  • Very usefull for boats

    posted by PedroAbreu100 on 18:38:02 G2T 17/02/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Very good package, send direct nmea sentences to com ports. Can be used with navigation softwares, like opencpn. The price is very nice. In boats, with fiberglass covering, the reception of GPS signal inside the boat is very quick, and the signal is strong. Have 3 GPS sattelites in less than a minute.

Cons: Indoor aplication is allmost impossible. The dongle must be near a clear sky, the use inside home, with a roof makes the reception signal very weak.

Other: Is very good for a secondary source of GPS signal, as a redundancy to a primary one. Nice to have.

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: + Works as described + Comes with Driver/Software CD + Comes with small USB cable + Brief instruction manual

Cons: - Software might be strange? - Plastic casing a little difficult to get into (like most plastic moulded boxes) - None really found yet :-)

Other: Does what it says on the tin. Saves messing about with bluetooth GPS devices.

  • Very affordable but excellent working GPS receiver

    posted by superboer12 on 10:30:04 G11T 05/11/2012 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: - Cheap, some unit is sold for five times the price with another label on it - Standard PL2303 serial to USB convertor - Standard NMEA signalling - Thus compatible with general GPS software - Easily to modify in order to get PPS signal from GPS unit - Fast fix times - Decent GPS chip

Cons: - Does not supply standard PPS signal, only NMEA - Internal antenna only (small con though)

Other: Does exactly what a GPS receiver should do and costs only a bit. Ordering by Dealextreme does take a bit longer but it saves you a lot of money on this item.

Pros: I bought this gps 2 years ago and i have to say it works perfectly. I needed for mi travel to Japan and I used it with my netbook. It works with Google Earth and all kind of gps navigation software I have tested till now. It also works on Ubuntu (GNU/Linux) ad there's no need for drivers. Just plug and play! I didn't get lost in Japan with this little gps.

Cons: No cons at all for me.

Other: Better than expected. It was my first shop in DX and I was a little bit scared, but now i'm a DX fan!

posted by trokas on 05:14:39 G11T 17/11/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

    Pros: Small.
    Good built quality.
Works well after managing to get software right.

Cons: No map software comes with it.
Most programs can't recognize it, even google earth will work ounly using earth-bridge with it.
CD with drivers was damaged, but original ND-100 drivers from the internet worked well.

Other: Great device to make your netbook a gps unit. I use it for street car races and encounters and it works great. Still you will need a second person near the pc to get the most out of it.

  • Superb!!!

posted by pcgbr on 10:50:55 G8T 12/08/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Fast. Easy to use in windows. Is small. What else can i say? It's perfect for what it's made for.

Cons: The software. It came with a very simple software that gives your coordinates. For use as city navigator you will need a software like Garmin Mobile PC or iGo for PC. You can use it with Google Earth, but you will need a 3G modem. Be careful to use your net/notebook in the car because the hard disk may stop working after some bumps. Consider use a SSD. It's harder to work in linux but works!

Other: A GPS for less than 30 bucks! Works perfect in windows an linux (a little bit harder). If you already have a mobile computer an want to use it as a navigator this must be yours.

  • Excellent GPS USB for Netbook Swiss-Army-Knifery

    posted by Kilo11 on 19:58:29 G7T 04/07/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Awesome little GPS dongle for a netbook.
-Compatible with MS Streets and Trips (I picked up a copy of 2007 for $10 CAD)
    -Works?
    -Blue function light!
    -Cheap!

Cons: -Needs to be 'set' first by basically taking the unit to a field first before it'll start tracking quickly.
-Will often show that in MS S&T that you're driving off the road if your GPS loses track (see below)
-Will often lose track if you take the GPS dongle away from a window in the car and will not work in basements. (The S&T still works, just jerks around a bunch more and won't give as accurate directions)

Other: Pretty good for a netbook GPS unit. I can't complain for the price I paid overall for the entire thing. Just have to tape it down on the dash or something. I'll also have to add if this dongle does in fact work with the Chinese Apad I also got from DX.
