Pros: Compact Strong Easy mountable Cheap Nice fit Easy rotatable ring for a perfect fit.

Cons: Lens Cap had to much room Not Reversible mountable Had some imperfections

Other: A great buy and very cheap. And it looks cool. (But don't use it just because it looks cool. It is great for avoiding sun flares or annoying lights. A must for your DSLR.

Pros: Does what it's supposed to do. Cheap. Plastic is ok. Protect your lens in a different way that a filter does, plus don't affect image quality in a bad way.

Cons: When using with a kit lens like a 18-55mm, on the widest ranges (near 18mm), depending on the focus, the hood appears, so you have to adjust it, but with a bit of practice it doesn't annoy. Dont put it with much force, the plastic isn't much strong.

Other: For the price, buy it, makes you lens look bigger also. :)

Pros: - It's a lot cheaper then the ones you buy in the store
    - It does what it's suposed to do

Cons: - You can see the hood when completely zoomed out
    - You have to screw it onto your lens
    - The lens cap falls off

Other: It's a good piece for this price, but it have some problems (see cons). So if you won't use it a lot and don't want to spend a lot of money, buy this one. It keeps the sun out of your lens like it should.

  • Nice lens-hood.

Pros: It's a lot cheaper then the real ones from canon, which is always welcome! It gives you, and your camera, that "pro-look". It prevents sun flare from getting in you're shots, which can be annoying.

Cons: The biggest problem I have with this lens hood is that when it's put on the lens you can't attach the lens hood, there's nothing for the lens hood to hook into. If you're trying to use this with the 18-55, well any lens under about 30mm, the actual lens hood will show in the pictures, But that's something you already should know I guess.

Other: I'd say get it! Sure you can't attack the lens cover but it does look really cool!

Pros: Prevents flair from showing within the picture Gives a 'professional' look to the camera

Cons: If zoom is full out, the hood shows up in the picture It should have a way to better fix the lens cap in it (perhaps if it had an outer screw mark, it would fix the cap properly)

Other: Good product, considering the low price

  • Weak thread, but good overall

posted by bestenemy on 17:35:26 G1T 31/01/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Blocks flare, like it's supposed to. Ideal for long lenses. Highly recommend getting it as an addition to a polarizing filter (CPL).

Cons: Plastic thread is very weak and easy to strip. The tightening screw could use a tiny bit of lubrication. It's a bit loose - enough to skip and damage threads when turning. I suggest avoiding touching it all together. Let the friction hold the hood in place. The thread should've been metal.

Other: The hood does its job - blocks flare and helps control light when used with a CFL filter. Get it if your kit has a bunch of 58mm lenses and you don't feel like carrying multiple hoods around, however be prepared to have the threads wear out on you real soon.

  • Good product for a cheap price

Pros: - Its a Cheap and solid product
    - It Does the trick and looks good on the cam. You look more professionnal.
    - The plastic feels solid and not cheap.

Cons: - IMO a Lense hood that installs over the whole lense instead of screwing in the lense or filter.
    - This type of lense hood will show up if you do go in lower focal lenght like 24mm. So its not good for wide angle.

Other: Bottomline its a good product for the price. But I would have prefer having a lense hood that installs around the lense body instead of the lense tip. This way probably it would have not affected the wide angle.

  • A nice lens hood

posted by docontra on 07:57:02 G2T 12/02/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: This is a great lens hood. I think it does what it supposed to do and helps to protect your lens from straches. It fits perfect all my 58mm lens. It has a nice built quality, looks exactly like the expensive ones. It feels very durable. And it gave my lens a "professional" look.

Cons: As you can imagine, it's not that easy to screw this onto the lens. You will probably take more than 10 seconds to do this, maybe 30...

Other: If you want/need a lens hood, i recommend this one.
