  • It did it's job!

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: It's very reasonably priced! It's a convenient amount for hobbyists. Wets well, Solder fillets are clean, not too much out-gassing.

Cons: Lead- but leaded flows much better than lead free solder. Only has a few months shelf life once opened before oxidation causes it to be more trouble to use.

Other: Would buy again, but probably would by more than 2-3 at a time to always have fresh stuff available, without waiting on DX shipping.

  • Tacky LodeStar Soldering Paste

posted by holomalta on 14:14:36 G5T 23/05/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: This paste is quite tacky and holds smt components in place quite firmly before soldering. The flux (mixed in) is great. All pads are perfectly wet right through at around 220 degrees.

Cons: There is lead in the mixture but as long as you don't eat it and wash your hands, you're fine. Definitely, keep out of reach of children.

Other: This quantity will probably last for a long time. Get this for SMT/SMD. It saves you *lots* of time and trouble.

  • This is GREAT solder PASTE

posted by CaptKirk on 18:40:39 G4T 16/04/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: This is Solder PASTE (flux plus solder) Great for SMD soldering Makes difficult soldering tasks easier Makes clean solder joints Easy to use with a soldering iron, OR hot air/reflow Low residue after soldering. Easy to apply once you have a way to get it out of the jar. Jar seals tight and keeps the paste from drying out. Thins well with full strength (<90%) isopropyl alcohol.

Cons: A little difficult to get out of the jar and into a dispenser. Messy if you do not handle it properly. Dries out quickly if left open. May separate if left OUT of the refrigerator (but I've never seen this)

Other: If you solder, get at least two jars and keep one in the fridge until you use up the other jar. Great price for a great product. Buy it- but leave some for ME!! ;-)

  • Excelent soldering paste

    posted by crms78 on 14:29:04 G3T 29/03/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: It's an excellent solder paste for SMT components, I've been using for soldering SSOP, QFT and QFN and so far I have had no problem. Quickly reached the melting point, thus avoiding prolonged stress on the IC.

Cons: None, just be careful to use it in a ventilated room, as any type of welding, by the toxic gases.

Other: Excellent results for very low cost. very good buy, I even bought back

  • Great stuff

posted by nodani on 05:26:53 G3T 28/03/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Cheap, very cheap, and also good quality. This is mostly for SMD soldering, use an open oven or a heat gun to use it, and a syringe to dispense it on the PCB.

Cons: None, maybe the lid of the container is a bit loose, but it's OK

Other: I will buy it again without doubt, but with 50g you have a lot and I don't use it so much.

  • Easy to use. Good value.

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Until now I've only ever used wire-type solder. This is the first soldering paste I've ever used. I found this paste very easy to use: Just put a small amount on the clean joint area (I used the wide end of a toothpick) and then apply heat with a soldering iron.

Cons: Fumes smell quite strong when heat is applied so consider working outside or in a well-ventilated room. The container lid is a bit sketchy and can leak if tipped on its side or upside-down. Store the container upright and you should have no trouble.

Other: If you want to try solder paste I don't imagine you could find one that is easier to use. Work carefully though because the fumes are strong smelling (and are probably not good for you).

  • Soldering paste

    posted by f11lbert on 09:13:15 G2T 09/02/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: This is soldering paste - you do not need separate flux and solder, just apply the pase and after heating it you have your items soldered. No dirt after it. And I do not understand how I would solder SOT23 and such IC's without the paste.

Cons: For me there are no cons.

Other: If you need soldering pase - get it.

  • Nice product! A good companion for PCB rework!

    posted by Jhonny321 on 09:04:35 G1T 23/01/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: It is a nice solder paste (it smells a little bit funny most of the times) in a small container that is a must in every prototype PCB that you make.

Cons: It came only in this 50g container. I would love to have this on a bigger container. Something like 150 to 250g. Otherwise it is OK, ignoring the bad smell especially when it is melting on the hot plate or on a soldering oven.

Other: A good product. Worth a try even if you never used solder paste before

  • good stuff

posted by Mieciu on 10:20:58 G12T 21/12/2012 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: melts easily, just enough flux inside, easy to clean after soldering, easy to apply with toothpick :-) It's good for tinning wires, also perfect for smd soldering - take a look at my example device -70A current sensor: http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/9125/00001651.jpg

Cons: Maybe little bit too thick

Other: good price and does it's job. I will definitely buy more because i used half of the amount in just 1 month.

  • Awesome time saver !

posted by ShadowLight on 10:10:03 G12T 19/12/2012 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Awesome ! I never used that kind of thing, only regular tin wires. And this is great. I had to solder a Bluetooth SMiRF module on connectors, to make it removable from my board... Just apply some paste in the holes, put your iron on it, heat it up and you're done! It doesn't require so much heat to melt so it's faster and you won't burn your components.

Cons: Smells very bad... Made me cough while soldering but I wasn't wearing mask and it was in a closed room... Don't do this ! (Do as I say not as I do...)

Other: Cheap, useful (when you have a use for this of course), easy to use... Buy this !
