  • Easy to use stepper motor driver for arduino

    posted by mr22turbo on 09:20:30 G4T 12/04/2014 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Quite cheap, easy to use and connect to an Arduino. You can drive two dc motors (PWM) or one 4-wire stepper motor. Several settings can be changed with jumpers.

    Cons: No documentation

Other: Buy it if you need to drive some heavy stepper motors with your arduino

  • How to hook to Arduino

posted by JackWP on 11:48:50 G9T 02/09/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Good price, quality, and can do what was expected of it. This is a very good board/value, if you have some idea how to connect it. I still don't know what all the straps are for ? But I just left them alone.

Cons: Documentation lacking: but here are a few hints. with motor A and B, I will discuss just B. pins in3 & in4 control direction. ENB enables motor B, and can be used with PWM. If in3 & in4 are both the same level (both high, or both low), the motor will not run. If they are different, the motor will run one direction, or the other.

Other: I have hooked this up with two different motors, ran them backwards and forward, used PWM to change their speeds, with great success.

  • For a smart car this is more than good enought to drive your DC motors!

posted by ObiTwice on 02:02:25 G6T 12/06/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: -cheap -works -lots of information on the Internett -has a usfull heat sink -5 V output

Cons: -no manual -some what poor soldering -not very effective, high voltage drop across the controller

Other: There is also two ports on the board witch is not very intuitive, if this is your first motor controller. The EN1 and EN2 port. This is for enabling the motor output. If low the motors will not be activated, but if you leave them floating or high the motors will be activated.

  • Good product

posted by edgarllorente on 18:40:22 G5T 13/05/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: -Is very useful -Easy to connect, easy to use -Fully compatible to arduino -Nice finished -Can be screwed easily -Is well cooled

Cons: The only con I can find is that is a bit too tall, but not a real con at all if you just want to prototype

Other: Is a good product and very useful for managing motors with arduino, a must buy if you want to tweak a rc car with arduino.

  • Excellent Price, Excellent Quality

    posted by metalslug2 on 02:36:32 G5T 12/05/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: - Good size footprint (smaller than sparkfun board, but larger than solarbotics board) - Excellent price - Onboard 5V regulator and associated jumper pin - Screw terminals for attaching motor supply and motor A/B outputs allow a variety of wire gauges to fit.

    Cons: - None really

Other: So cheap that they can be permanently dedicated to a project. I've purchased 4 of these guys. Good stuff. Highly recommended.

Pros: I have bought several samples of the motor driver for several robotic platforms. It works fine with Arduino and these motors : * High Torque 30RPM 12V DC Geared Motor (SKU 91627) http://dx.com/p/high-torque-30rpm-12v-dc-geared-motor-91627 * LynxMotion A4WD1 Aluminium http://air.imag.fr/mediawiki/index.php/Base_robot_LynxMotion_A4WD1_Aluminium. I thinks it is not enought powerful for the Dagu platform http://dx.com/p/dagu-v010-wild-thumper-6wd-robot-chassis-set-silver-black-202143 (problably caused by the 11.V 2200mAH LiPO battery). I'm waiting for a 7.4V 4400mAH battery for extensive tests.

Cons: Nothing. providing an 6-wire jumper with it will be fine

Other: The Arduino program to control it is here http://air.imag.fr/mediawiki/index.php/L298N_Stepper_Motor_Driver_Controller_Board_for_Arduino#Programme_de_test The Arduino program to drive it from a Android phone is here http://air.imag.fr/mediawiki/index.php/Base_robot_LynxMotion_A4WD1_Aluminium#Bluetooth_Controller (use SKU 104299)

  • I bought three of these

posted by PuzzleTeam on 14:09:11 G4T 26/04/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: It's a great product and it has a good price. It's the easiest full h-bridge for use, and it can be used with majority of motors. If you have a small motor, you can use 2 of these in just one motor driver. But if you have a big motor, you should use one motor in one driver for current supply. I'm doing this and its working good. The driver has some leds to indicate what port is in HIGH state.

Cons: No manual, and it is huge.

Other: I've not used this with a stepper motor, but it's doing great with my DCs Motors

Pros: Very cheap, in my country at this price do not buy nor L298N, let alone a whole plate. Still has an internal 5V regulator (7805). Very bright LEDs help in time to use.

Cons: Not have documentation, it makes it very difficult, but nothing that solves a survey. Connectors engines are of low quality are misaligned, crooked, but for the price, I have nothing to complain about.

    Other: -

    posted by 6atman on 10:15:29 G4T 15/04/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Price... Simple to connect and use. Originally purchased these for use with a cnc. I ended up getting a higher powered driver, but I plan to use these to make a small plotter.

Cons: The yellow headers were on the top side of the board. I desoldered them and moved them to the bottom side for easier use with breadoards.

Other: Great product for a low price. I bought 3.

  • You need 4 PWM pins

posted by ebludt on 06:54:34 G3T 30/03/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: It´s cheap. Works. A l298H driver. You can control 2 dc motors. Es barato y funciona. Puedes controlar 2 motores DC.

Cons: No manual or datasheet. You need google and time. No hay manual ni datasheet. Necesitas bastante tiempo tirando de google.

Other: A lot of PWM pins used. You ned 6 PWM if you want PWM controls of motors. 2 digital PINS more. Othe H bridge use 4 digital PIN and only 2 PWM pins.
