Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Easy to use with just only a transistor (or other) needed to amplify, buffer the output. Include the control over sensitiveness and time. Very good range and sensitive even at "middle" setting. Even a centimeter of hand movement can be detected at range of 3 meter. Very wide angle of detection, don't need to point directly at target position (also can be a Cons in some situation).

Cons: A bit Bigger than I first though (in fact I think it huge! compare to other PIR). Front plastic cover don't have locking mechanic, you need to make it yourself. So, If front cover got lost, you need to replace it or it will probably don't work (which replacement can be hard to find because of the big size, easier to just buy a new PIR).

Other: Very good product and price. I'm not sure if this module alone can drive current-hungry components like motor or relay (I always throw 1 transistor in every sensor-liked component just to be safe).

Pros: This is one of the things you would want to have if you do home automation or alarm system. It is cheep, working perfectly and i was not able to cheat him off. Very reliable for using on Arduino like projects. Easy to use and no lag. Fast detection and i had him tested till 5m works perfectly. Different settings on its own.

Cons: All you need is to make some small case for the sensor. Would be nice to have it with.. but i guess the price would go up.

Other: If you need this.. buy it.. what else can i say

Pros: There is no documentation for it. Google HC-SR501. You can connect CdS light sensor in it. It has two potentiometers and jumper pads so you can setup to suit your needs.

Cons: Would be nice if a datasheet was available. But you don't really expect that from these kinds of assembled components. Google HC-SR501

Other: Value for money. Will buy again.

Pros: This is one of the fun items to use with your development board or in an actual application. There is enough information on the internet on how to connect, how to install light sensor, how to install temperature compensation for high ambient temperature. Also found the Eagle schematics and board layout. There is also documentation (of course not from DX) which explains the soldered bridge H&L. I will quote for you: //"two trigger mode: (can be selected by solder-bridge) a, can not repeat the trigger: the sensor output high, the delay time is over, the output will automatically become low from high; b, repeatable trigger: the sensor output high after the delay period, if the human body in its sensing range Activities, its output will remain high until after the delay will be left high to low (sensor module review Measured activities of each body will be automatically extended after a delay time, and the final event of the delay time Starting point of time)."//

Cons: Capacitors should be smaller (surface mount). Connector pins were very very bend. No documentation. Looking again on internet this module should be cheaper. But for this price you cannot build your own.

Other: Just grab one. It's fun to experiment with your ARcuino

Pros: Small Size, detects motion from 5+ feet which i tested, trimpots given for changing the sensitivity.

Cons: The Plastic Lens case is very lightly attached. No datasheet provided in specifications Capacitors should have been SMD

Other: For the price, this is GOOD ENOUGH, works with Arduino... See the PIRSense Sketch http://playground.arduino.cc/Code/PIRsense

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Very nice and very small. Seems pretty well built. Easy to hook up and use. Adjustable delay time and sensitivity and decent range (excellent for the size).

Cons: No major flaws. Dome plastics is a bit transparent and could be bit homogeneous in color, but this is really aesthetics nit-picking... Also, mounting holes would come handy.

Other: Price could be lower but it's still a good purchase.

Pros: Very good product, easy to manipulate. Detects an human located in 4 meters at least (tested indoor) in about 1 sec (in all directions). Good for domotic apps (auto light turning on...)

Cons: The white part was broken, but it works. The 3 black pins were also twisted, but they were easily corrected with pliers.

Other: A good and cheap product

Pros: It's cheap and it works okay. PRetty easy to wire up - with an Arduino 5V to 5V, GND to GND and Out to a digital pin configured as input. You can connect it up without a microcontroller - basically if you have 5V and GND connected, the out pin gives 3.3V (I think) and apparently has a resisotr in series so you can connect straight to an LED - this is useful for troubleshooting

Cons: The orientation of the pins makes it hard to plug into a breadboard - and I didn't have femal to male connectors to had to use female-female to male-male to connect to Arduino

Other: Good value for money considering the price, if you need maximum reliability you may need to pay more (or maybe get two working together and either one could detect. Would recommend it for hobbyists.

Pros: Great product for the price! Worked great in some of my DIY projects. Very easy to use, simple digital output. Great product for beginners and also suitable for more advanced prototypers. Module is small enough to be easy to hide and a guarantee for fun projects.

Cons: Because of some of the bigger parts on the module it's not very easy to stick in a breadboard. I also haven't found much documentation on the module.

Other: Very fun module and I definitely recommend buying this product for its easy of use and cheapness.

Pros: It's a product of a nice quality and very easy to use for people which are getting started on arduino. I found some examples on internet and started to use it inmediately

Cons: Its design could be better (capacitors do not let you install it at the center of protoboard) and It doesnt have instructions, but i searched for them on the internets

Other: I recomend this product for arduino starters because it is very easy to install and learn
