  • My new number 1 favorite light

posted by ldhurst on 06:12:11 G4T 01/04/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Best finish out of all my lights, threads are clean, very bright, run time approximately 1 hour, Glass lens! The build off this like equal that a 50 to 70 dollar lamps! I have had it one year now and use it about four PR week and it still looks new! Diamond cut knurling is very deep and sharp.

    Cons: Absolutely nothing

Other: Best bang for the buck dollar value out there

  • Great flashlight

posted by Albertosoto on 03:23:03 G10T 19/10/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

    Pros: Sturdy construction.
    Very very nice pocket clip
    Good threads (came lubbed)
Super performer on Alkalines or NiMH
    High-Low modes
Tailcap has 06/2011 date (I asume it is production)

Cons: XR-E Q3 is a bit old led emitter. Anyway, the performance with Alkaline and NiHM batteries is excellent.
It comes with user manual, but it's only in chinese.

Other: A great flashlight for gifting to non Li-Ion related people.

  • Brightest 1xAA flashlight

posted by neveric on 15:45:36 G5T 02/05/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: - One of the greatest 1xAA flashlight. Amazing light output for ni-mh and alcaline batteries. Best choise if you don't want to use li-on batteries. - Built quality is superb for 14$. - Real waterproof. - Nice clip.

Cons: - It's different from batch to batch (see other thoughts). - Overview says that P31 has no 14500 support, but... (see "other thoughts").

Other: Perfect flashlight, but I can't give it 5 out of 5 because of that mess with batches.

  • Excellent Flashlight

    posted by Darkblade48 on 02:12:53 G1T 29/01/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: An excellent flashlight for this price. The build of this flashlight is very solid. Even on a single AA, the flashlight is bright. This flashlight also comes with a sturdy clip, which can be mounted in either direction, as the pill containing the LED and the tailcap can screw into either end of the tube holding the AA battery. The threading of this flashlight also came pre-lubricated.

Cons: The flashlight does not come with a carry case, nor a lanyard (though there are holes for the lanyard). This flashlight does not take 14500 batteries. There was some leftover dirt on the threading (perhaps from the manufacturing process)

Other: An excellent flashlight; for this price, the build quality is very solid. Get it if you are looking for an AA flashlight.

  • Bright & Small

posted by fettler on 11:51:57 G7T 11/07/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Small light (not much more girth than an AA battery and only slightly longer)
Beam is nicely focused. Good size 'hot spot' and pretty decent spill. Colour is slightly blue but nothing that will upset you. Good machining, O rings well lubed out of the box & lens is unmarked.

Cons: Mine has a couple of scratches on the LED end. Not a deal breaker though. Other than this nothing wrong with the light. Re-chargable AA's are pretty tight (but I guess you don't want em rattling about in there) Lanyard holes are tiny, get rid of the 2 x tiny holes and replace them with one big one and it accepts 550 cord.

Other: Small, Bright & well made. Is there anything else to say? If you want a tiny bright AA torch to take everywhere with you, get this one, its perfect.

  • Great little light

    posted by Smithx357 on 08:32:45 G6T 26/06/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Well built very bright little AA light.
I bought this small sized light daily pocket carry and have not been disappointed.
Nice knurling provides a sure grip, the clip keeps it from rolling on a flat surface and is not in the way.
The finish is tough, after a month in my pocket with keys SAK and change there is only one minor little scratch in the bezel.
The O-rings are lubed and the threads are smooth.

Cons: The emitter is slightly off center, though it does not seem to affect the light in any way.

Other: Great little flashlight that is well built and uses common every day AA batteries. The best bang for the buck single AA flashlight I have found.

  • Very durable finish, goog looking bright AA Light!

posted by garlando on 03:16:54 G6T 14/06/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: - superior build quality compared to other lights in this price range
    - anodization is excellent, its a matt finish
    - bright for AA light, i would estimate about 120 lumen
    - threads are clean and smooth and lubricated
    - clip seems to by durable enough
    - good reverse clicky switch

Cons: - led not perfectly aligned, but thats no big deal
    - the head is complicated to disassamble, so if you want to upgrade the LED, yust think of it. I only had a look on it and decided not to do it! Changing the Driver is no Problem!
    - can't find any con on this light!

Other: Very recommended AA, 14500 EDC light!
    I'm very happy with it.

  • Good light but could be improved.

posted by erpan on 09:39:55 G6T 05/06/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Its quite bright for this price you will be amazed.
For the price ill rate it a 4.
There are better flahslights which is far more better but then they als cost 5 times more.

Cons: *The cree is not perfectly aligned.
*Its a metalpin instead of spring so it will scratch your batteries. Rechargables are little bit higher so there you will notice deep circles in your battery whereas alkalines will be less scratched.
*clip doesnt feel that durable , if you bend it to much it will probably be bent.
    *battery will rattle some.

Other: I also have fenix ld10 R4 and i use 9 lumens when walking home and if i like to see further i switch to high or turbo. So that means i can use it for 34 hours if i only use it with 9 lumens.
Hugsby maybe the runtime is 2 hours(didnt try though) . So it will cost you more in buying new cells or recharging them frequently.

  • wow.......

posted by flashin on 14:39:15 G5T 21/05/2010 certificated customer

Pros: wow..... nice little light. very well made. everything fits well and seems to be of good materials. nice knurling in the center of the body. it may be the brightest single aa [1.5v] light that i own. very impressed by the output. it's nearly as bright as my rc-n3 on the hi setting. throw is respectable for such a small reflector. the threads feel good, and it has o-rings thoughout at all the needed places. o-rings are lightly lubed and tight fitting. my impression is that it is at least submergable at shallow depths. so if it was dropped in a mud puddle or creek it should survive. the finish seems to be very tough.... don't know if it's ha3 or not. the button is recessed by the switch housing. it can tailstand, and that also prevents it from accidently coming on in my pocket. it has lanyard holes, but none provided. which is good, i have a drawer full of lanyards and didn't need another one. nice springy pocket clip that clips on to the light body. as frills stated in his review, the clip direction can be changed from light down to light up by swapping the ends around. has a fairly large hotspot with an acceptable amount of sidespill. no ringy beam on my example. the amount of orange peal texture is about average on the reflector. excellent size for an edc light.

Cons: a nice light like this needs a forward tacticle style switch.

Other: nice little BRIGHT light. worth the price and then some. a good light to make a flashaholic out of a non believer. if it had a forward click, it would almost replace the rc-g2 as my favorite light. i'll see how the finish holds up after a couple weeks of use.

  • Well-built

posted by frills on 20:17:43 G4T 27/04/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: The light has some sturdy construction and heft with a battery tube wall over 3mm thick on average. (approximately 2.5mm at clip attachment point, 3.5mm thick at knurling, 3mm elsewhere) The checkered knurling is reasonably aggressive and provides good grip. The spring steel pocket clip is removable (takes a little effort; it's strong). It can be used on other lights of similar diameter (20mm at the clip attachment point). The matte finish has a nice feel and seems to be some form of anodize, though I don't know how thick. It has what appear to be trapezoidal threads, which is a strong wear-resistant threading similar to square-cut. The threading is the same for both the head and tail, allowing you to reverse them so you can point the clip either way for head up/down carry or clipping to the brim of a hat as an improvised head lamp. The light can tail stand, and has twin lanyard holes so you can loop a lanyard or split ring through horizontally without affecting the ability to tail stand. The output compares favorably with a 90-lumen source. There are o-rings at the lens, head and tail. They also came lubricated. A dunk test in a bucket of water revealed no sign of water ingress, so I'd say it's at least splash proof.

Cons: Ringy beam; The reflector has a light orange peel texture and the emitter collar protrudes a small distance into it instead of sitting flush with the base. This causes the cree rings in the beam to be a bit more pronounced than they would with a flush emitter fitting or heavier reflector texturing.

Other: Superb construction compared to the competition in this price bracket.
