  • Nice looks, nice blade

Pros: Build quality is very impressive. Seems reliable and appears to last long. Details in wood. It is an elegant knife, I recommend as a gift for a friend. Blade is really sharp, but I have no idea how to sharp it when needed - expect the cutting edge to stay sharp for a long time.

Cons: There is no lock to avoid exposing the blade while in your pocket: you may hurt yourself if you put your hand in your pocket distracted. The mechanism to unlock the knife when armed takes a few minutes to learn - not intuitive. Price could be a little bit less.

Other: Buy this if you are looking for a knife that will not rust and has a sharp blade.

  • Confiscated by Australian Customs

Pros: Unknown - did not receive item

Cons: Australian Customs confiscated the knife because it "can be opened by one hand". This is the reason that they gave but i believe it to be incorrect. the cost of persuing it is more than the knife is worth. Maybe some people are lucky to get one through, but mine got taken.

Other: I ordered one from an Australian store and reveived it no problems as it was already in county.

Pros: The knife is sharp and doesn't go dull. It is very light compared to many steel knives I own and for this reason it's very easy to open the knife with a flick of the wrist. The blade doesn't move at all when it is openen unlike many cheap knives.

Cons: Blade is a bit fat which is necessary for a ceramic knife. When I cut a really fresh and crispy apple the blade first cuts and than as I push through the fatter part the apple "cracks" open, rather than being cut.
The safety switch doesn't open very easily. Maybe oiling it could help. However, this can also be considered a pro since it also means that the blade doesn't move about.
The knife could use a shud or finger groove eventhough I don't need either. However, I'd like to have a clip to attach it to my belt.
Wood is a bit cheap and I recommend oiling it for weather protection. Mineral oil works fine.

Other: Good knife; acceptable quality; coolness factor being ceramic; should have belt clip; limited use due to fragility.

Pros: It's a small and nimble knife, have tested it on both slaugthering of a deer and a sheep (emergancy slaugther) Its good for skinnig and I havent needed to sharpen it yet.
    Nice form on the blade.
    it looks good

Cons: Blade chips in contact with bone, or twisting wood etc.
    hard to sharpen.
Not for any type of wood work, only meat and skinning jobs.

Other: Its a great kife for sea fishing or fishing in general where you need a blade that dosent corrode. stays sharp, chips on rough handeling.
    It's cheap.

    Cons: wood isnt polished,
not easy to find a belt case for it so far

Other: I love this knife so much i call it Black Betty

  • Good ceramic knife for the price

Pros: For the price, this is a pretty decent knife for general light duties. The build quality isn't too bad, One of the blades out of the two that I ordered was a little loose making it very easy to open one handed using the "wrist flick" method. Because of the lack of a thumb stud, this knife is ideal for the left handed user, even closing the knife with the left hand is relatively easy. The wood scales are quite handsome but the edges are a little rough to the touch, a little 600 grit sandpaper to smooth out the edges really make the scales very comfortable in the hand and polishing with a good wood oil makes the grain almost iridescent. Unlike the majority of folding knives on the market that use torx bolts, this knife is held together with allen bolts, so servicing can be easily accomplished with two inexpensive and easily obtainable allen wrenches. The blade, being made of ceramic is a lot lighter that a similar blade made of steel and the use of aluminum in the handle construction ensures that the knife is well balanced and not handle heavy. This is by far one of the lightest 3 inch folding knives that I have ever owned. The knife doesn't feel cumbersome in my pocket. In fact, I very often forget that it's there. Out of the box, the blade isn't as sharp as steel knives that I have bought, it appears to have a 25 degree edge angle. This is not a bad thing at all as the ceramic material is brittle and if the blade edge had a steeper angle, say 17 to 20 degrees, it would be a lot sharper but more prone to chipping. The blade on this knife will never rust and, with the handle being made primarily of aluminum, the knife is pretty much maintenance free.

Cons: Poor grind geometry is pretty normal on cheap knives, grind lines usually do not evenly line up with the blade tip being either higher or lower than the tip of the blade. Also on cheaper knives the grind lines are not even on both sides of the blade, I have owned knives where the grind line was above the on one side of the blade and below the tip on the other side. It is normal for grind lines to be slightly out of symmetry on all but the most expensive knives The grind geometry is pretty even on both sides of the blade, one of the two blades I bought is pretty near perfect, you can see some differences in the other blade though. on one of the two knives that I own, the grind lines were almost perfect, meeting at the tip on both sides of the blade. The other had great symmetry but the grind lines were slightly below the tip on both sides of the blade but not by too much. Build quality of this knife is a little rough around the edges and the screws could be a little tighter and are prone to becoming loose. A little loctite will fix this however. No belt clip. I've marked this down as a con because most people like to clip their folder onto their belts. Being left handed, I personally don't like belt clips as they are predominantly designed for right handed users. Also the general trend today is to have no scale on the side of the handle where the clip is attached. I have removed the clips from all my folders, preferring to carry them in a small pouch or even my pocket.

Other: A great little every day carry knife that is both light and useful. Don't forget that ceramic blades are not as durable as steel blades and won't hold up to the same kind of punishment. Ceramic blades, after all, were primarily designed for use in the kitchen for food preparation and not as a hunting or camping knife. The greatest benefit to a ceramic pocket knife is its edge retention ability and the fact that it will never rust.

Pros: Being Ceramic it inherently won't rust and stays sharper longer. It also won't give food a "metallic" taste, although this is not a problem I have encountered myself while using carbon steel or stainless steel knifes when dealing with food. feels very sturdy, there's no give in the blade when folded up

Cons: I was very dissapointed by the sharpness of the knife out of the box. I use knives frequently while hunting, cooking and as a scout, and all my (steel) knives are much sharper than this was. I attempted to sharpen it using a diamond sharpener, but wasn't able to improve the sharpness. I think the main problem is the angle at which it has been sharpened in the factory, its too steep. Another problem is closing it, as you have to push on the lock for so long when folding it in that you think your going to cut yourself every time. Also, it being ceramic you can't use it for prying

Other: If you wan't a sharp knife, this isn't the one to buy. But if your looking for a knife that easy to maintain, that rarely if ever requires sharpening, for a decent price; go for it. It isn't the knife for me though.

  • It's Oh So Ceramic, I just had to have it

posted by nukenik on 14:26:42 G1T 10/01/2011 certificated customer

Pros: It's ceramic and it's a pocket knife. That's the biggest pro, right there. As some others have noted, it is sharp enough out of the box to shave with. I have a bald patch on my left arm to prove it. I like the black color of the blade, since it looks more traditional.

Cons: Out of the box, some of the handle screws were so loose., they'd nearly worked their way out. But, with the right tools, I was able to tighten them back down. Also, the opening and closing is not all that smooth. I may try oiling it and see if that makes it a little better.

Other: A good price on a ceramic pocketknife. DX continues to keep me ahead of the Joneses. :)

Pros: - Nice looking knife - Quality blade - Black ceramic blade : Makes it more eye canding rather than a white blade (like kitchen knifes...) - Operates smoothly - Nice looking of the 'wooden' parts and overhall looking. - You can't find a ceramic blade folding knife for this price !

Cons: - Like moderns knifes, only 2 parts put togheter, not a real handle like traditionnal folding knife... But, again, it's the form factor of recent knifes, even the expensive ones ! (Or you need to buy a real 'Laguiole', but that's another story !)

Other: Worth the value, i'm very happy with this knife (and i collect some... 12 at total !)

  • Great Knife!

    posted by 08reeves on 12:01:06 G10T 20/10/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: excellent quality, very sharp in fact so sharp I can shave with it. The finish is top notch. it opens smooth as butter. the liner lock is easy to operate. In fact the pros so outweigh the cons that I feel the cons are hardly worth mentioning.

Cons: no knob or groove in blade to assist opening, however it opens so smooth that it is still easy to open. It did take close to two months to get it, but it was worth the wait.

Other: A great knife for the money, I have never found a knife of this quality for less than 3 times the price. I dont know if all are as good as mine but if the one I recieved was representative of the quality, then you should buy one now before they are sold out.
