  • Not bad for that price

Pros: Easy to install and use. Decent IR output. A good addition to an IR camera.

Cons: Runs a bit hot. I have not used it for prolonged periods of time, but after 5 min, I can already feel the flashlight getting pretty warm. It only has one mode. You can see a dim red light when it is on. I guess you could filter that one out with an additional filter glass.

Other: Good for sporadic use. I am not sure for a prolonged use, as it tends to run hot.

  • ultrafire drop in for IR nightvisoin and cam.

posted by lasermanathome on 04:02:37 G5T 30/05/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Cheaper and better than a xenonbulb and a 850nM filter. When used with ONLY ONE 18650, the spilled heat reduces very much and the led gives enough IR to be usefull , especially with nightvision-equipment like gen 0-4. The throw can become much better by focussing the reflector (about a turn loosen the reflector from the driver and in optimum use a drop of cyanoacrylate to keep the adjustment.

Cons: The 3 IR chip cause a strange formed spot, an orange like reflectorlayer can reduce that effect. The heatdissipation can be reduced substantial by using one 18650 battery, the used driver is not designed for the only 1.7V these chips need but for a white led (3.2 V). what causes the heatproduction. a better dropdown driver should fix that problem.

Other: Althougt the output-when using only one battery- is still not optimised, this drop -in works better than multi IR led lluiminators at greater distance and is much smaller. Using the reflector of a T6 drop-in with orange like reflectionskin gave further improvement, the throw was better and the uniformity in the spot was much better. So this drop -in is very usable and a challenge for persons who like modding. It was certainly NOT A BAD BUY.

  • Great for Night Vision

    posted by mikeb1206 on 05:35:39 G4T 11/04/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Increased range of Night vision when installed in a flashlight.

Cons: would like the beam to be more focused, beam is wider than the field of view for most night vision scopes

Other: nice unit for the price, well worth waithing for shipping time. I bought one and dropped in my 501 flashlight, using a pressure switch and a camp to hold it to my gun this lights up the area at night for the night vision scope. The LED's are not noticed by the animals and give you clean advantage.

  • Excellent IR module

posted by iPadrig on 20:11:26 G12T 12/12/2012 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Solidly build IR module Nicely finished, heavy and robust Thick aluminium in case any heat dispersing is necessary Throws a lot of IR light (It's like turning on a powerful flashlight in front of your Nightvision Gen1)

Cons: Slightly visible IR light, although it is visible when looking directly into the light, it does not seem to produce a red spot on any surface which might be in front of the IR module.

Other: If you own a Gen1 Night Vision and you have a Ultra Fire or equivalent Flash Light, this is the combo to go for. a whole new world of visibility opens up for your NV. In my opinion it's a very good buy!

  • Good and cheap

Pros: This is an excellent product for its price. I dropped it into my UltraFire WF-501B torch and it worked fantastically. It gives off more light than the 12-led flashlight, and this fits to all wf-501 series lights. Good build quality, heavy enough to help with the heat management, fits well into suitable flashlights. Does not emit much of visible light.

Cons: I can not think of anything that is negative to this article.

Other: if your looking for a IR light source and don't mind a bit of red glow go for it its a good strong light source and the 6P format makes it compatible with a huge range of torches

  • Not so bad ...

posted by NightSpirit on 05:27:55 G12T 15/12/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: This is a good choice if you need to make lighting for nightvision cameras at long distances. Wide input voltage range allows to use a popular power adapters.

Cons: The real power is approximately 2 W or a little less (8.4V, 0.24A; 6.5V, 0.3A; 5V, 0.37A). In continuous operation requires additional cooling. The beam has a significant irregularity.

Other: Not 3 W of course, but 2 W also not so bad ...

  • Excellent product

Pros: This is an excellent product for its price. I dropped it into my WF-502B torch and it worked fantastically. Coupled with my Sony Camcorder I can now see in the dark!!! 'It does what it says on the tin'!! Obviously it is not as bright as an infrared illuminator but for this price its fantastic. This is much better IMHO than the infrared filters which you add to torches.

Cons: none that I can see.

Other: If you are after an infrared module for night vision, this is the best for the price.

  • High Powered 3W InfraRed IR Drop-in Module

posted by drivegary on 21:03:06 G10T 01/10/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Easy drop-in for any P60 body, my UltraFire L2 didnt require the outer spring to be removed. Very high output, worked well with low end webcam's and some mobile phones. Comes with a smooth relector

Cons: Not the greatest build quality, after a couple uses, one of the three emitters fail to light up. Also this emitter runs quite hot, so prolonged use will probably burn it out without proper thermal protection.

Other: Good to mess around with, probably not so good for actual use reliability wise.

Pros: I put this bulb in my surefire G2 to use my infrared rifle scope. It works very well and gives a much wider beam pattern than my old lamp which is on the rifle scope.
I ordered earlier, a similar lamp from Sweden, which cost about four times as much. I have compared these two lamps and can only conclude that it is exactly the same!

Cons: I can not think of anything that is negative to this article.

Other: By this lamp if you want a good and sheap IR lamp!

Pros: It gives off more light than the 12-led flashlight, and this fits to all wf-501 series lights. Voltage range allows me to use this in the WF-501D light with 2x 18650, giving me a nice amount of runtime.

Cons: Some smudges and a tiny scratch at the reflector, but nothing that bad.

Other: Quite good, buy if you need a cheap IR-dropin for some reason.
