  • Small vise that might be useful

posted by NiLoni on 23:46:58 G7T 03/07/2014 certificated customer

Pros: I use this as soldering helper and it does the trick for holding the boards as third hand.

Cons: It's hard to get something small sticking it because of the slippery coating on the clamps. If you sand the painting it works way better. It's very small so don't expect it to work for hammering etc. Another of the clamps will wobble a bit so it could be hard to get something sticking in the corner without really using force.

Other: It's what you would expect. Small vise for holding small things.

  • cheap mini vise

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: It's great to hold small objects while soldering. There is no damage to the objects since the jaws are not knurled.

Cons: only fits the thinnest of tables (the 'maximum opening diameter 35mm' spec on the website is wrong: total opening is only 30mm, and deducting the pivot ball height your table should not be more then 20mm thick). If you really need to apply force, objects tend to slip.

Other: can't be beat for that price, if it fits your bench.

  • Great PCB holder

    posted by siky01 on 21:18:15 G6T 09/06/2014 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Excellent range of motion grips good onto pcbs and the like without scratching them and opens up to accomodate a wide variety of tables

Cons: opened the box and the pivot ball fell right off the desk clamp and theres no stop to keep the vises jaw from being over-loosened and falling off

Other: good buy for the price but could be better

  • Cheap and good tool

posted by Zusidal on 17:44:19 G1T 20/01/2014 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Has mostly used it when I've soldered, but also sometimes when I drilled hole in small things and tings like that and it looks likes its not used. A small and lightweight vise that fits everyone involved in working on small things, soldering, gluing, cutting, drilling and much more. Nice to have in the toolbox or just the tool cabinet to you need it, because it can be assembled in no time at all places where it is thin enough to fix it and it's use for it...

Cons: only negative I've discovered after over a 14 mounth's use is that the tabletop can not be too thick....

Other: if you need one, buy one..

  • Good tool for its price

posted by biloleva on 04:40:46 G6T 21/06/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: For its price it is the best. I use it sometimes when soldering something or making bijou with cooper wire and some rocks. The build quality is not so bad. It is very usefull if you need something like that.

Cons: It twists and slides a little on the table, but i think it is easily fixed with a little of rubber stripe and glue

Other: Nothing more to say :) It's good, but not a perfect

  • Cheap mini vise

posted by ramonkill on 06:18:39 G5T 23/05/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: The product is tough enough for small works. It is very useful for electronic, carving, jewelry, etc... It is smooth hence the frail objects won't break easily. If you use the product for works DIY I recommend you the buy.

Cons: The main and most important con is that you will need a very small table for attach the vise. I hardly have tables where I can use the product. The material seems a little plastic. I guess that mini vise can break easily.

Other: I would recommend the buy If the product was cheaper. Only buy the product if you have a very thin table.

  • Must have tool for soldering!

posted by iamalx on 10:05:44 G4T 10/04/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: - The cheapest metal wise I'm aware of - It holds PCBs more reliable than specialized holders like sku-21651 - I've just bought it randomly and now can't imagine myself soldering without this tool

Cons: - The build quality is not so good, but still acceptable - You need to twist it really hard to your table - thats because the holder surface is too small - You need to turn it with care not to damage your PCB

Other: I definitely recommend using metal wise instead of buying magnifier/pcb holder/iron holder. this thing is much more reliable.

  • Excellent for hobbyist

    posted by lauzon83 on 15:03:07 G3T 29/03/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Excellent for miniature project, for soldering, grinding, cutting... I use it with my dremel for my miniatures. It's strong and small enough to carry it with my tools.

Cons: Paint job / moulding could be better. Otherwise, I don't thing you could get better for the price. it's easy to use and perfect for small projects.

Other: If you look for a small mini wise, this is the right one. All made of metal, this one will last a long time.

  • Seems pretty solid

posted by Luovahulluus on 05:00:32 G3T 13/03/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

    Pros: Seems quite solid.

Cons: - Casting quality is not very good. - You need to have a really thin table to attach this vise onto. My table is too thick. - The half-ball which should come into contact with underside of the table does not rotate. This makes the vise harder to tighten. - The part that is in contact with the top surface of your table is not even, it could leave marks on your table.

Other: You can't beat the price. Not for professionals or for "locksmiths". Good enough for occasional hobbyists.

  • A very simple vise

posted by mbvillela on 20:07:15 G3T 11/03/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: The price and the size are perfect! A very cheap tool and a very small one. Perfect for small things that does not require too much forces to do the work.

Cons: This is a very, very simple vise. Not for users with great expectations because it is a small and not so perfect vise. The screw used to clamp the vise to a table is so short that a still do not have anyplace im my house that fits it. Its finishing is very poor and its parts does not fit properly. Opening its jaws is easy but to close it is another history, the rails are not weel machined and the jaws wobble too much.

Other: Aluminum keep its price and weight down, but does not have the resiliency needed in a tool like that. I wonder how many days it will be useful to me.
