  • Good multi-purpose metter

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: It looks and feels like a Fluke meter. The meter feels sturdy. The LCD is big and clear. The function selector dial is good, it gives that positive “click” feeling. Internal construction of the meter is really good. It has big HRC fuses and the MOVs for input protection. Probes are good. Probe socket makes good solid contact.

Cons: Compared to higher end Fluke models, this meter lacks the Min/Max function, does not measure true RMS,no-bar graph, has no LCD backlight, and has no incorrect probe socket detection. The overvoltage CAT rating is also slightly lower (300V CAT III vs 600V CAT III). Takes longer to stabilise, very low values are not accurate (see below). Continuity tester should be louder (it's barely enough for quiet workshop, but quite unusable in loud factory hall environment). Calibration manual unavailable (at least to me outside China). Still uses a bunch of trimmers, no closed case calibration. It uses the cheap blob-on-PCB method, so no chance of repair if the main IC dies (but it's probably unavailable anyway).

Other: The Fluke 17B is a good basic meter. It’s not good as usual (not China-only) Fluke meters but is still a good meter. It is much better than no-name brand meters.

  • Fluke Quality at China Price

Pros: Solidly built accurate meter with all the most used features. I've tested this against my workmates more expensive flukes and it stacks up just fine.

Cons: The continuity beep could be louder and it needs a back-light to be truly versatile.

Other: For $100 you can't go past it. If you're trying to decide between the meters on dx and you're going to be dealing with deadly voltages definitely buy this one, it's rated 300v CatIII so is good for all your "normal" uses.

  • A good buy

Pros: Other reviews mentioned the solid feeling selector switch, which I thought strange, but it really does feel well built and makes my last ($20 cheaper) meter feel very cheap in comparison. I dont think the average consumer can do a proper review of something like this as it really requires an analysis and comparison of its accuracy compared to other similar-priced meters. So all I can say is that I am happy with the purchase, I would buy it again and it has more functions and looks and feels better built than my last $80 meter which fared well in reviews.

Cons: I think a transistor tester socket is useful, even if you can still do the same function. As other reviewers have noted, the thermocouple reading varies if you hold the leads. Obviously this makes the reading highly suspect - is it right when you hold the lead, when you dont, or neither (and no, Im not talking about holding the thermocouple itself !) It would also be nice if it could predict the lottery numbers, but other than that is hard to fault.

Other: I think this is a good buy.

Pros: + Build quality are awesome; + Probes are really good, long enough with flexible rubber-like wires; + Heavy weight - looks and feels as a real device, not piece of plastic + Precise + Almost all measurement possible for this kind of device.

    Cons: Not found

Other: Extremely right choice for multimeter.

  • The real thing for less than half the price

Pros: Basically you are getting the real Fluke mulitmeter for less than half the price. The meter came in a bubble envelope about 1.5 weeks after my order was placed. Nicely packaged with an instructional manual in both chinese and english. Other product brochures came in chinese. The multimeter and cables were in brand new condition and the quality was superb.

Cons: I cant think of any except that the beeping sound for the continuity test is not consistent and response was not immediate.
Take note that this product is sold outside of China and does not come with the standard one year warranty.

    Other: Great value for money

  • BEST PRICE FOR A REAL FLUKE

    posted by sismo2010 on 02:05:55 G5T 13/05/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: It has the quality you'd expect from a FLUKE multimeter. Case, buttons, wheel selector, everything fells perfect.
Changing batteries is easier than in the more expensive multimeters.
Temperature reading is not necessary but is welcome.

Cons: No cons at all. Everything it's just as I expected.
The main differences with high level Fluke are:
    - no RMS
    - slower refresh rate
    - no backlight
    - lower CAT protection
    - no range bar at the bottom
If you want all these specs you have to pay 4 or 5 five the price.

Other: I always wanted to own a FLUKE, but the price was too expensive, until now.
If you are looking for a multimeter of very good quality and a very good price, this is the one.

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: + For this price, I expected to receive a "non official" version of the mutli meter, but it turns out to be a genuine Fluke meter that is marked specially for the chinese market.
+ The build quality of the meter and probes is good: nice materials and feels rigid.
+ When comparing the measurement results with a calibrated multi meter, I couldn't find any errors.

Cons: - The "beep" sound is a litte too soft.
    - No option to connect the measure to an power socket.

Other: Very good product! I even started to use it professionally.

  • solid meter

posted by testsubject on 04:24:06 G2T 22/02/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

    Pros: 1. Built pretty solid.
    2. Dial clicks with reassurance.
    3. AA battery operation (instead of a more expensive and unfavourable 9V disposables - which some of Fluke's more expensive meters still use! (Hello?! It's 2011.).
    4. Buttons feel good.
    5. Meter doesn't feel like a plastic shell filled with lots of air, like some cheaper meters do. Knock, knock...

Cons: 1. Continuity buzzer buzzes intermittently when touching probes together or testing continuity with the probes. Huge disappointment to me. Tried to clean the probes; same deal. You only hear a consistent tone when touching the grooved area of one probe with the grooved area of the other probe.
    2. No backlight but this can be expected for the price.
    3. Readings overshoot or undershoot for a second or two before they become stable.
    4. Meter comes with batteries installed (would prefer to just use my Sanyo Eneloop rechargeables). If these cheap and disposable ugly batteries have to come with the meter, I would prefer them not installed and unused. Batteries can leak, after all.
    5. Battery cover is affixed with a screw and has to be lifted up in an unnecessarily hard fashion. Easily amongst the most annoying battery covers I've seen. Not sure if the rest of the Fluke range is like this but I don't like it.
    6. Yellow protective holster has a mild odour.
    7. As a temperature tool, I found the temperature probes pretty cumbersome and annoying. A "use once" feature to me - which could have been made a lot more refined and graceful.

Other: Good (but not outstanding) features and build quality for the price.
Someone on the web has opened the Fluke 17B up and shown how well it's made inside. Probably a lot better than most of the competition at this price - but I'm not sure.
Basics like the Continuity test is a total let-down, though! Which sort of puts things into perspective. Why aren't basics like this given more attention?

  • REAL Fluke multimeter in very reasonable price!

posted by Swataia on 11:14:21 G2T 20/02/2010 certificated customer

Pros: - Definitely a genuine Fluke multimeter - Fluke quality - Includes an English manual - Easy to use - Simple display, easy to read - Has nearly as good accuracy as Fluke 177

Cons: - This model doesn´t have a LCD-backlight, but there is so much room inside it so one can build it easily if wants...

Other: If you need a good and durable multimeter in a reasonable price, you should buy this!

  • Nice multi meter

posted by wortelsoft on 13:56:36 G12T 30/12/2009 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: The meter has all the stuff you need with the temperature probe as a real bonus. It uses AA bateries which is handy because, most of the time you have couple of spare laying around, which you ca't say of the 9 volt type normaly used.
The meter has a build in stand so you can place it upright for easy measurement.

Cons: I compared it to my last month calibrated Fluke 177 true rms meter and it's a litle bit off:
    Fluke 17: 5,04 volt
Fluke 177 5,020 volt (it has a digit more)
    There is no backlight.

Other: If you want a nice multimeter from a good brand get this. Can't understand why Fluke doesn't sell these in Europe, so people can get a decent meter for a nice price.
