Pros: External USB grabber it's important for me. Labeled connectors. USB extender cable. Small size.

Cons: I was hoping that I would get a device on Syntek chip. I need this one for using in Linux OS with kernel driver. This item have Somagic SMI-2021CBE chip. For me it's bad news. I can use only userspace soft now from: https://code.google.com/p/easycap-somagic-linux/

Other: It"s work in Linux with kernel v3.7 as /dev/video0 Linux drivers project home: https://code.google.com/p/easycap-somagic-linux/

Pros: Fast delivery. Strong package. CD with all software (drivers and video capture program inside). Auto install software. Fast auto find and recognized my cameras.

Cons: Software not friendly - need upgrade. (Dont have options for quality of video/audio, dont have settings of language - english users only). On slow computer working slowly (1 channel recomended for laptop/netbook)

Other: Good purchase for this price. Software upgrade recomended (IMHO)

Pros: Easy to use, small with sound input. Perfect for using with notebook for aligning cameras or temporary usage in places. Plastic does not feel cheap, and software is useful if not used for professional services.

Cons: Housing is not very sturdy, it may go apart if you accidently pull the wires asside. Software doesn't seem to work on x64 Windows, it only has 1fps if you use all four chanels

Other: Worth it's price, would deffinetly reccomend it's comparable to twice as priced dongles...

Pros: Works well only in versions of Win XP & Win did test already were not as satisfactory. Outside ist use in win xp monitar is excellent for a small house for short periods of time works very well. Software that comes jutno is very practical.

Cons: It does not work very well in Win7. You need different software that comes on CD and a research version of the drive for Win7

Other: I advise those who want something cheap to capture cameras and uses a PC-type desktop

  • works great with the Wind Turbine Trainer!

posted by funskymcdoogle on 11:12:50 G9T 04/09/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: inexpensive and opens up a world of possibilities. We include it with our Wind Turbine Trainer that is going global this year.(google search and you will find). Allows us to use inexpensive security cams arranged in sequential order to demonstrate the entire powertrain in a commercial wind turbine! See posed videos. You can use different views and cycling. Also capture files to disk, and loop played. Ideally this allows schools to transmit video feeds using their mostly un-used smart room technology and webcasting potential that has had little use until now.

Cons: Some issues with installing in windows 7, but have seen it work before. The trick is finding the right tech to make it work, ideally use in XP. Yes the included USB extension is short, in fact don't use it at all, it will not display all the video signals, you can get aftermarket for a few bucks. Product is still well worth it.

Other: Can't go wrong with this, if you want to do home surveillance you need good cameras as well. The cheaper ones we use are good because of the small scale trainer we have, within inches works great. Remember the system as a total will only be as good as the weakest link. If home security is important get the getter cams, low lux high res.

  • review for EasyCAP

posted by mmjjookk on 05:45:50 G5T 06/05/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Usb device - very convenient and easy to use. Pack also has a short USB extender - I planted the idea to hide camera wires with device away from my computer for the aesthetics. Installs quickly with no problem on xp and win7. Quality of image is good. Supplied software working nicely, and it's acceptable for my needs so I had no need to search other software - that's saved my time a lot.

Cons: With own software records video in a sort of secret files, which I even did't realize how to open. As it is said it records four cameras on switching mode, with minimal time between cameras 1second, it could be shorter, i think that's only software bug. With working all cameras together in switching every camera refreshes on 4 seconds - thats too slow for me so I left only 2 cameras on my system.

Other: Good working device with nice soft. I realized that for 2 cameras it works for me best.

  • not good for home surveillance

posted by raido on 23:17:53 G1T 19/01/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: price, idea of 4 channels in one device for surveillance device is good, only it would be nice if such device would be able to record 25 frames per channel.

Cons: I could not get it working under 64 bit xp. It asked for some dll which was not availlable for 64 bit windows and 32 bit version did not work. I got it somehow working under Linux. It showed picture, but there semed to be some parameter problem as picture had very bad quality

Other: It may be used with 32 bit windows in situations where you want to see different video sources one by one.

Pros: Cheap, Plug and Play (USB), easy of use.
    Works in Windows 7 64bits!!
(Not with the drivers it comes. Just search for "FreshKiNg27- Easycap Driver for Win7 64-bit" and "USB-AVCPTSetup_For_Win7" in google and you'll find what you need).
It's a cheap 1 only channel video input, for windows 64bits.

Cons: Couldn't manage to use the 4 channels. I can use only the Channel 2, don't know why.
The software it comes with is bad, and doesn't work in Windows 7 64bits. Use another one, like AMCap or Unlead and you'll manage to use the channel 2 only.

Other: Have in mind that if you use windows 7 64bits, you'll manage to use only the channel 2. But it's better than a Pico and is USB.

  • Poor software, unit failed after one hour

    posted by SMSLB on 19:33:30 G6T 06/06/2010

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

    Pros: Cheap

Cons: I only needed the audio portion of the device but the supplied software insisted that you save a video track as well. So I set the frame rate very low to save disk space and started recording with the intent of separating out the audio track later. Went well for about 30 minutes. Recorded one side of one cassette then the device stopped working completely. I also tried some other recording software which recognized the device but no audio or video was being recorded.

    Other: Buy something else.

Pros: Incredible price so I had to get one. It shows all four cameras on a split screen, or you can focus on one and it takes the whole window.

Cons: I run Windows XP on a dual core system. I can only record camera 1. The video movement cycles around each camera for a few seconds while the others are freeze-frame. So this isn't real-time system, but what can you expect for 12 dollars?

Other: If you only need to record one camera then this little DVR system is fine. If you need more horsepower, then you need to spend much more money elsewhere.
