  • Great Digital Temeparute Sensor

posted by ksenchy on 14:21:07 G5T 22/05/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: This is a very cheap, but accurate ambient air temperature sensor (tough a waterproof metal case version also exists, same protocol and you can measure the temperature of liquids as well). It also has a very wide measurement range (-55 to 125°C). Above you can have several sensors using only one pin as it's based on the OneWire protocol for which you may find libraries... but what's the fun in that?!

    Cons: None really.

Other: It's possibly the best performance/price sensor you can find on the market at this moment, so I think it's worth buying.

Pros: *It works great, although i tested it without a sensor shield. *Works perfectly with OneWire library that can be found on internet, plus with examples on how to use it. *Great to avoid soldering, since yo just connect it and you are Done

Cons: -The only thing i didn't like was that it was a little bit overpriced considering you can get the ds18b20 by U$S1.

Other: Great product, ideal for the ones that don't want to lose time wiring the ds18b20 with a protoboard, just plug it in and working

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: -Easy to use, at least on the raspberry pi no additional software is required -its very cheap -well designed layout -can be operated using only 2 wires -you can use multiple sensors on one bus

Cons: -no description on pin layout, you have to consult the comments section...

Other: -works great attached to a raspbery pi -these are great for prototyping but im gonna buy some more with shilding(water proof) for my green house -havent tried to detach the sensor from the breakout board but should be posible if space is an issue

  • Works great with Raspberry Pi

posted by wakeupbomb on 11:44:30 G3T 04/03/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Great little module for temperature sensing on a Raspberry Pi. Plenty of guides online for getting it to work but it's very easy to do. Nice and small and comes with the required resistor on board. I'd spend the tiny amount more and buy this module over a bare DS18D20 so you can just plug it in with no messing.

Cons: None at all. No complaints. More so a Raspberry Pi issue but it can only be used on one of the GPIO pins (4)

Other: Cheap, works great, easy to use and very accurate. Buy these if you want to do some temperature measuring with a Raspberry Pi.

  • Accurate temperature sensor

    posted by Python1320 on 12:18:50 G2T 05/02/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Accuracy! it's accurate to sub-celsius. My thermometer and the component's pre-calibrated readings also agree with each other. Easy to use with ready made libraries all the way to having straight out calibrated celsius out of serial port on arduino.

Cons: It didn't like my short circuit. I accidentally had a short circuit for 10 seconds while turning my back around and that made the sensor overheat and burn. The logics and communication system still work but measuring itself shows 127C constantly now.

Other: Good temperature one-wire sensor and good "casing". Definitely worth more than just the sensor alone.

  • Works well - at last

posted by mysjkin on 11:45:01 G1T 27/01/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Measures temperature quickly, may have more sensors on one bus, small breakout board with everything included- fits directly onto the sensors shield

Cons: No description of the layout of the connectors- had to use a multimeter to find out what was what. (since I was at first not connecting it through a sensors shield... A bit bulky - in some applications, just the IC and a resistoir may fit better.

Other: Connections: Ground, voltage, signal seen from bottom front

  • Dallas DS18B20 sensor on a breadboard

    posted by Hendrik24051972 on 06:26:54 G12T 17/12/2012 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: This is a board with the Dallas DS18B20 temperature sensor on it, together with a pull-down resistor, and an LED. You get an "all-in-one" board, and there's no need to add more components. Everything you need to get it working is available on the print.

Cons: Slightly more expensive than the pure DS18B20 sensor, but you get the extra components on the print for that money.

Other: Make your life easier, and get this print instead of the separate DS18B20 sensors.

posted by ppsieradzki on 20:40:54 G11T 11/11/2012 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Really accurate! Like, very accurate, down to .5 degrees. This is fantastic if you're using it for something like a digital thermostat like I am. Really happy with this module and it even has a built-in LED that blinks when Arduino requests the temperature from it. Fantastic for diagnostic purposes.

Cons: None, really. It does everything as advertised and you can't argue with the price. The PCB board saves you a lot of trouble.

Other: Fantastic value. With free shipping, this is by far the best deal on the internet.

  • Good and cheap !

posted by ipernjakovic on 01:42:21 G10T 26/10/2012 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: This is a perfect addition to any DIY-er, its literally plug-and-play whether you're working with arduino or PIC. It has been measuring temp in my PIC project every minute for a month now without any problems whatsoever. And since it has 12bit resolution, it can measure temp in 0.0625 steps !

    Cons: None for this price.

Other: Ordered 2 more pieces so i can send temps wireless from other rooms in my house.

  • Very precise, excellent quality!

posted by bokorn on 06:56:34 G10T 20/10/2012 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: - Very precise thermometer, you can read the actual value directly from the sensor, no need to depend on more or less accurate voltage dividors, under/overheating, etc - Only 3 pins needed (and only 1 for communication), extremely useful if you have few available pins - Very good build quality

Cons: A bit pricy, but otherwise no cons.

Other: If you need an accurate thermometer, buy this one!
