Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Easy to use Very sensitive Quick response to light variation

Cons: Uses 9V battery.....I prefer AA or AAA type.

Other: One reason to measure it ? Take notes of your preferences / comfort zone. When you move you can reproduce your preferences in your new environment.

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Covers a wide range of illumination (200k - noon sun) down to fairly dim room illumination: I didn't get it to analyze levels of starlight!

Cons: A backlight would be nice as would auto-ranging, but that's a bit of nit-picking. Instructions are in Chinese, but there's not a lot to figure out!

Other: Inexpensive, and it does what it says on the box!

posted by Kasatkin on 06:57:19 G4T 09/04/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: - Works as claimed, just add battery - Large digits easy to read even from distance - Shows value immediately

Cons: - Carrying case came broken - Guide is on Chinese only, useless outside China - Measured value looks wrong - Price is larger than can be

Other: I would not recommend this device if you need measurement tool which you can trust. After some calibration it can be used with some extent of accuracy.

  • Professional but cheap

    posted by davx80 on 17:29:27 G1T 18/01/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: - It can read from 0 to 200000 lux
    - You can select three different range of measurement
    - Very easy to use
    - Work like a professional product with a price that is 1/5
    - Use a 9v battery, easy to find everywhere
    - You can use a tripod with the sensor

Cons: - The manual is only in Chinese. Not even in English. Ok, it's not difficult to understand how it works but at least a little manual in english would be good.
    - Don't seem to be very tought. I think an hard fall on the floor will be fatal
    - A memory function for Max and Min value measured will be really useful

Other: If you need a lux meter, this is your product

  • Good luxmeter

    posted by int0x80 on 12:45:02 G11T 21/11/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: High accuracy and wide range for the great price. Robust construction and functional design. Sensor can be mounted on a tripod or any other holder with 3/8" screw.

Cons: The wire is short and not replaceable. Personally I'd like to make it detachable and have some commonly used connectors - say, RJ-11 or something like that. While sensor can be mounted somewhere, the main unit just hangs on the cable or has to be fixed somehow else. Display has no backlight (very annoying when measurements are performed in a dark room).

Other: If you need to measure luminosity of some surface or flashlight effectiveness - buy this item, you won't regret.

  • A good choice if you need a luxmeter

posted by compasillo on 08:48:53 G8T 25/08/2008 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: + Very wide measuring range
+ The carrying case is a very useful accessory (though it is made of cheap plastic)
+ Big display with big numbers (mine doesn't fail at the moment) though a backlight would be helpful
+ The tripod mount is very useful
    + Low price

Cons: - It comes without any instruction booklet so you cannot read the error codes when displayed
    - A bit cheap looking

Other: An affordable luxmeter. If you need one this is a good option.

  • Seems good, but QC problem

posted by OldNick on 06:47:13 G6T 25/06/2008 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: This meter is easy to use. It is well packaged, and the overall quality looks good

Cons: My problem is that on the second try, the meter lost one of the bars of the display. So I could not tell 0 from 8. I could press on the display and make it work. Since this thing is really good value, I opened it up, and found a circle marked in texta on the cct board. Pressing here solved the problem. Probably a bad cct connection or cracked board copper line.
What bothers me is that this was KNOWN. This was marked as a problem.

Other: This is good buy. But I had bad luck in the lottery.
My question is: Do DX want to know about this problem? I know I get reimbursed for returns and they will replace, but I was waiting for this baby.
I am going to try to address the problem to allow me to get going, and let DX know.
For $28, I can live with buying another one if my "fix" does not work.
    I am a bit disappointed.

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: - Pretty good build quality, especially considering the price.
    - Comes in a nice storage box.
    - Sensor/probe can be mounted on a tripod.
    - Has a great measuring range, can measure direct sunlight!

Cons: - Backlight display would have been nice.
    - It is a little bulky, not much though.
    - No english manual.
    - Could have had an even longer cord.

Other: If you want a cheap and versatile lightmeter, this is the one to get.

Pros: seems to be very good build. comes in a nice plastic box which is not that strong(cover will brake of eventually) i use it to compare flashlights which works very well i also use it to read the amount of light in my home works on a 9 volt battery

    Cons: sofar none.
do not know how long it will last on a battery but i figure a long time

Other: for this price you absolutely have to buy it.

    posted by ben1680 on 08:34:03 G3T 08/03/2008 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: - It works quite reliable, measurement are consistent and repeatable - Included box

Cons: - It use antiquated 9V battery instead of more standard AA battery
    - Cheap build quality
    - Included box can be better built
    - Instruction are in chinese only

Other: This is a good starting point for flashlight hobbyist. It can reliably measure lighting level of various flashlight. If you want to make realiable measurement of Lux output of a flashlight, you can do ceiling bounce test. You can find lots more info on CPF for this technique...
