  • Driverless webcam of good quality

posted by timotheus on 10:52:01 G4T 06/04/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: - No driver disk needed, works with default Windows drivers (at least on XP) - Good display quality compared to other webcams for the price - Decent frame rate during video - LED light for in the dark - BRIGHT light

Cons: - BRIGHT light (can be quite annoying) - Suction cup on the bottom is BS, it doesn't work - Weird key for the suction cup is low quality - Has some trouble staying upright

Other: It's a pretty decent camera when you've found a way to keep it upright, but that can be a hassle. Since it works without drivers it's user friendly.

  • Disappointing, framerate way too low

posted by sectoid on 08:58:42 G3T 19/03/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Acceptable image quality (still bad, but a bit better than other crappy webcams), reasonably good-looking, driverless, good microphone, suction cup, four really bright LEDs to light your face :)

Cons: Image quality (as I said, it's still bad), HORRIBLE framerate (DX says the manufacturer claims 35fps at 640x480 and that's why I bought it; however, the box says it only does 30fps at 320x240, and 15fps at 640x480; in reality, its like 15-20fps at 320x240), no control software whatsoever, suction cup is not good.

Other: I've come here to post my first review ever on DX, just to reinforce what was pointed out by Morphs's review on 3/16/2010. I've basically come to the same conclusions and wish I could've seen his review before buying. I just bought a MS VX-3000 from ebay and will try to sell this one or give it away. Yesterday I was trying it out with a friend that has the MS one and his image and framerate were so much better, really another level. Or better said, lots of other levels :(

  • ITs a good camera

    posted by Jeffsey500 on 16:16:15 G3T 17/03/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: It works and it works well. Not sure what "Morphs" is talking about, I get around 15 - 25 fps on it. The picture quality is well above average. Completely plug and play.

Cons: The suction cup doesn't work that well. The key to unlock the suction cup is silly and cheap. Could have used a longer cable. Needs a heavier base (falls over easily)

Other: It's nice. I'm about to order another one. Although it does occasionally freeze after 3 or 4 days continuous use (Mine is used for surveillance).

  • Total disappointment

posted by Morphs on 07:09:57 G3T 16/03/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Looks nice, seems like a good build quality. Microphone included and a suction cup to attach the cam on any flat surface. So you can also attach it on the wall, ceiling, etc. There's also 4 LED lights on each side of the lens can be adjusted with the volume control on the cord. Yes it's not an actual volume control but meant to change how bright the LEDs shine. Picture quality is REALLY good... but read on...

Cons: There are however some cons that make this cam a disappointment. The camera only seems to respond to movement that is extremely close to the lens. Else the video just freezes and the framerate drops to between 0 and 5 fps max. Which brings me to the framerate, which is HORRIBLE. The framerate is like 5-7 fps when you move your finger really close to the lens, but even then the framerate is really erratic so it feels more like 1-3 fps. Alhtough the package states that at 320x240 a framerate of 30 fps is possible, there is just no way to adjust the picture size of the camera. There is one button on top of the camera, but it seems to be used to capture a frame as an image. The suction cup has a tendency to let loose after a minute or so. Some type of instructions would have been nice since there are a lot of problems with this camera and there is just ONE button on top that doesn't do anything useful. And finally, the cables are WAY too short! Max 1 meter for both the USB and jack plug. I have my computer under my desk, which makes it impossible to put the webcam on my monitor.

Other: There is no telling how other cameras on DealExtreme will compare... I'm not planning on buying another webcam here/;. I also find it strange how other reviews about this cam are positive. Maybe they succeeded better than me in setting up this camera. But frankly, since this cam is driverless, there is no way to set anything up... Don't buy this webcam.

  • Cheap camera, useless microphone

posted by endever on 16:22:04 G3T 15/03/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Its cheap It has a microphone, which is not really usefull unless you have a very good sound card. The LED lights can be anoying, but you can control the strength of them

Cons: The microphone has no amplification, and hast to be plugged in to the sound card (would be better if it would just be a USB microphone) which makes it kind of useless for me. Also, you have to be really near to it to be heard.

Other: Does its job as camera. Useless microphone.

  • Not as advertised

    posted by dmworking247 on 20:10:36 G3T 11/03/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

    Pros: Driver free as advertised
Better in low-light than my Logitech camera
Built in LEDs for dark rooms/night use
    Directional microphone included

Cons: Make no mistake. This is NOT a 1.3mp camera, NOR is it 35 frames per second.
Even the box it arrivs in states that this camera is 640x480 15 frames per second, r 320x240 att 30 frames per second.
Also as others have said, the suction cup base is completely useless. It can only balance, or you can improvise a stand yourself.

Other: This is a good deal for a 640x480 15fps camera. Buy it if thats what you want, and can live without the suction cup.
Do NOT buy it if you are expecting a 1.3mp or high frame rate camera.

  • Works a treat.

posted by JimHodge on 03:30:34 G3T 11/03/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: The picture quality is pretty good as well as the sound from the microphone.
Flexible neck so easy to change direction.
Has LEDs to light up a face or even use as a keyboard lamp.
Quite cheap for the video quality.

Cons: The base is about as useful as a hip pocket on a singlet, the suction cap is hopeless and leaves it unstable.
USB cable could be a little bit longer but it's sufficient.

Other: Not perfect but a pretty good buy.

  • Great cost benefit

posted by Edsonsk on 08:49:23 G2T 10/02/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Excellent image and audio, flexible easy to adjust height and position in both the camera and the microphone works fine with MSN, Skype, among other software which use webcam, it requires no installation drive owners, simply put it in PC to start working.

Cons: There is one key to unlock the plastic cup that holds the webcam, it is dropped, and can be easily lost, it could be fixed and not loose, not least because this is just to move the camera does nothing to guard against theft by example .

Other: I believe if a product that is worth being bought because of all the webcams I've seen this was one of the few who had an approval rating above the average in the picture, audio and fixing it.

  • Great camera

    posted by KreAch3R on 12:25:03 G1T 04/01/2010 certificated customer

Pros: Video quality is very good, such as 30 euro cameras here.
The stem is pretty useful, the leds too, they are quite blinding in full mode, but you can reduce it. The microphone is working, and, although i positioned it about 40cm from me, with the right settings in sound card works well.
Tested with Windows live messenger 9, worked out of the box, no settings required.
Good packaging as well. Driverless in Windows 7.

Cons: The base support doesn't work, and besides that, is very light, so if you bend the stems too much, it falls. Find somewhere to put it against.

Other: Great Webcam, with quality of double prize cameras.

Pros: -The flexible stem of the camera is more useful than I thought, it gives the camera a near gyroscopic view of the surroundings.
-The camera also comes with 4 LED lights on the side, and their brightness is adjustable. It is very handy when lighting is not optimal in your area!
    - The quality of the camera is way better than ones in-store, and the microphone comes in handy.

Cons: -The suction cup on the bottom only sticks for 30 seconds on a really smooth surface.
-The key and clip were not that useful. It is redundant to have both. The clip and base seems rather fragile as well
-The base is really light, and the camera will fall over if it is tilted too much!

Other: This is definitely worth the price. I have been constantly using it, and everyone compliments on the nice quality of the camera (and the person!).
The light also comes in handy whenever there's no flash light around. The LEDs are really bright too! I can see around the room in the dark with just the 4 LEDs.
