  • Good and bright product

Pros: - Very very bright - Alluminium star allow you to fix the led on the body of the lamp - The star is very good for heatsink - Easy to solder - Excellent for DIY project

Cons: - Maybe it can cost less expecially now that newer led are out, but it's not a bad price

Other: If you need to replace a led based on 20 mm star this is perfect. You just have to take out the old one and install this. Two minutes and you're done (unless you need to change also the circuit board)

Pros: This is an awesome bright led for the price.
I also chosen this over the Q5 and I'm also glad I did.
Star is very very well built. Led is perfectly centered.
    Solder spots are perfect.
20mm star gives you a good starting point for heatsinking.

    Cons: None at all.

Other: If the size fits your project, this is a good starting point. There're brighter leds but this one gives you a good compromise of lumens/dollars.
    Really happy with my purchase.

  • very concentrated light ouptut

posted by Culverjoe on 23:37:15 G10T 01/10/2010 certificated customer

Pros: conveniently mounted on a start with positive and negative points to solder to. light output to die surface area ratio is very high, I think the highest of any emitter on the market today this makes it have the BEST throw available.

Cons: a little to purple for me, but it's not that bad at all

Other: good choice for a thrower due to high output to die surface area ratio.

Pros: I bought 10 pcs for my DRL. I used 2 sku.13557 to drive them (5 pcs in parallel). It's very bright even if I drive 5 pcs in parallel with one driver. In this way there is no overheat sink. If you use one driver for one led you should use proper cooling

Cons: I got no problem with delivering. It took 2 weeks.
For mine leds all will be ok with solder. I haven't noticed any disadvantages for this good.

Other: Very good led. If you know where you can apply it, just buy and enjoy!

Pros: Okay i ordered this and sku.2394(q5) and receive it both at the same time i got mixed up so i dont know which is which because they are on the same board and same diameter. they look the same and perform the same however one of the led im not sure which came in with the dome damaged, i see bubbles inside the die and its not clear but still usable

Cons: i think dx should do quality check on my damaged dome and do not send it to me . i dont mind the delay but its ok the damaged emitter i use it to modify my cheap light which is now much brighter

Other: if u want to buy please dont buy together with sku.2394 wait for q5 to arrive then only order r2 or the other way round

  • Not Exactly What I Expected- BUT Very Bright

posted by zippyzappy on 14:37:35 G6T 27/06/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: I tried to mount this baby in my TikkaXP but to no avail. So I mounted it in an encapsulated star mount in another flashlight. To put it simply, this bad boy is bright white. Lumem output compared to Lumiled was staggeringly different. Almost put it on par with my P3D in color and initial intensity on high, not turbo.

Cons: Upon initial inspection of this high quality LED, I found that the soldering joint on one side was obviously over soldered. Automated assembly should not have this poor quality. Since the LED was not lifted off the star there was no need to fix it. Just ugly.

Other: Output is great. Works if you know how to mod existing lights a little bit. The star size is slightly different than Lumiled and P4. No big deal if you like to mod stuff. Otherwise- stick to Seoul P4 (my fav)

  • Perfect even for caving

    posted by int0x80 on 10:10:52 G6T 22/06/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Bright and inexpensive replacement part suitable for upgrading virtually any LED flashlight. When used with good current source driver, it provides continious bright luminous flux suitable for all activities - even for caving.

Cons: Current source driver is a must, as direct connection to batteries makes this LED very ineffective.
Also, I don't like the color, but that seems to be just a matter of taste...

Other: If you have a flashlight with "star" LED - buy this item and upgrade it!

  • Not real pleased at this price

posted by bluebanshee on 13:54:04 G3T 14/03/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Bright replacement emitter for older LED lights. Nice tint.

Cons: My emitter was NOT centered. Its actually off quite a bit. I thought this emitter would be brighter in a 3AAA light that it went into. It has a little more throw and spill. Its not impressive at all when compared to either my AKORAY or C3 with lithium.
The aluminum on the board was quite a bit thinner than the led it replaced.

Other: For the price I could have just spend a few more dollars and got a whole light.

  • Genuine R2 emitter!

posted by jaysers on 09:21:33 G2T 19/02/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: omg.. the cree emitter is perfectly centered on mine. it is so very bright! the tint is totally perfect. i bought it to modify my jetbeam jet-ii ibs q5. now i mod it to r2. and the differents is amazing.. i prefer the tint so much better. the tint is so almost neutral white. and so bright. i solder off the star and exchange it with the led on the jetbeam.

Cons: the star can be cut with scissors. and the star is too big for my use so i have to throw it away. would be better if this came with 14 mm base.

Other: buy buy buy!! its dirt cheap and very good quality!
