  • Good deal!

    posted by vadim73 on 12:39:29 G6T 06/06/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

    Pros: Very bright
Clear white light (not "bluish" + not "yellowish")
3 useful modes (with different brightness: high/mid/low)
memory (resumes lighting from last mode - which was when device was turned off)

Cons: "SOS" signal is very-very slow for normal people to recognize what does really mean that strange blinking ...
2 unnecessary modes: blinking and SOS - It seems to me, 90% customers never use them (may be, just 10% - youth at parties - use blinking).

Other: Definitely good deal, especially if you order 3+ pcs

  • Good upgrade, good driver

Pros: The driver works flawlessly. Many cheap drivers flicker on lower output settings, or are inconsistent on how they changed modes, but this worked great! I pulled the driver out in favor of a two mode, and it was very nicely built. Two boards, lots of electronic parts on each board. I'm very happy with the driver quality (just not all the modes). Good light output (blows factory P60 out of the water). fairly tight spot, as are most XR-E's in 28mm reflector.

Cons: driver only pulled 860mA. But not the worst thing in my G2 due to heat dissipation characteristics of the nitrolon housing. two extra modes that are 99.4% of the time USELESS (strobe, SOS) (I used strobe in one of my lights one time when I was loading a broken down car onto a trailer on the freeway at night. that counts for 0.6%) 4 stars for the usefulness. It had a slight ring around the spot, which I got rid of by putting a small, very thin washer in between the brass piece (holds driver and emitter) and the reflector. spot is slightly bigger, and ring is gone.

Other: Excellent drop-in, good quality driver, great upgrade for surefire.

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

    Pros: Inexpensive
    Great quality reflector
    200+ lumen LED (measured output)
Drops right in (dimensions given are all correct).
    Long battery life
Memory - if button not pressed rapidly the driver returns to the previous mode used, which I was not expecting, but is very handy when working in small spaces.

    Cons: None

Other: Buy it. Make sure it fits your flashlight, however. This light is a little long for the Surefire G2 model flashlight (Nylon casing) and needs 2mm cut off the front to obtain the factory seal.

  • works with my Huntlight FT-01

posted by ponger on 08:26:14 G7T 13/07/2008 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: - Fit my Huntlight FT-01 (Luxeon III T-bin) with protected 18650 easily after removing outer spring
    - Significantly brigher spot and spill than my Fenix L2D P4 with textured reflector
    - whiter tint than my Fenix (which is greenish)
    - does have mode memory, but...

Cons: - mode memory suffers from classic "off by one" error (i.e. it starts in the next mode in the cycle as noted by previous reviewer, not the most recent mode)
    - beam very ringy despite textured reflector
    - spot is a bit small
    - strobe is too fast to be usable outside of a disco

    Other: Fix the mode memory!
Improve the reflector to get a larger spot with smoother spill transition.
Either slow down the strobe, or offer an additional, slower mode.

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Reasonably well-built, no obvious manufacturing flaws, all 5 modes work, switching between modes by clicking the on-off tail switch worked every time, good white color, low and medium brightness okay, high is less than the Q5 single mode.

Cons: (1) No memory, the light always progresses to the next mode when turned back on. It doesn't matter how long the light has been turned off, whether that be one second or one month. (2) High not as high as expected. If you want bright, then get the R2 single mode. (3) The beam is too wide for throw and too narrow for general use.

Other: It's a satisfactory product if you need 5-modes. It's cheap and it works.

Pros: After repeatedly testing this dropin here are my results:
    - Good build quality (soldering etc)
    - I really like "usefull" modes so like High-Mid-Low (but see my comments on Cons)
    - Easy to use and fits in my Ultrafire / Romisen flashlights like also mentioned in the Dropin description.

Cons: - No memory for last used mode
    - No brightness difference of the modes Mid and Low, maybe the driver of my Dropin is defective?
    - Could be brighter as SKU11836 is much brighter
    - At High mode, which is rated by DX / Manufacturer at 250 Lumen, it is brighter as my P4 but the difference is not that much.

Other: I know my review is censoriously but I just state the results of the Dropin I have got. Reason is that my customers and I am demanding and it is not nice, that e.g. the Mid/Low mode is not working properly.
I am quite sure, that I will order some more. Still the price could be better for bulk orders.
