  • Excellent price and brightness

Pros: This module is very bright, probably one of the brightest 26.5mm diameter modules on DX, if not the brightest (see below for more details). It comes with 5 modes: Hi, med, low, strobe and SOS. The strobe is fast (could be a bit faster though) and the memory works pretty well, as the flashlight always starts in the mode you've turned it off. The range is also very good, as it can throw the light at more than 100 meters away and still allow you to identify objects/people at that distance. The price is very good, used to be a great deal more expensive but I see DX dropped it (very wise decision DX! :) )

Cons: The voltage input range is quite low, 2.8~4.2V. That means you can only use it safely with 18650 cells in flashlight bodies that can also take 2 CR/RCR123A. This poses an issue as some of these flashlight bodies can't take the 18650 (the cells are too wide) like most of the Surefire lights. It works great on other lights like the Ultrafire 501B

Other: This is an excellent module for an everyday carry flashlight. The 5 modes truly give you a lot of flexibility in terms of the applications in which you can use it (light your path using the hi mode, search for your keys on low, or even self defense on strobe or calling for help with the SOS). For the price, you can't beat it!

  • nice, solid product

Pros: The memory works fine and the five different modes make it a great product. The light is very bright on high and on medium. Drop-in is useful if you are using it for other projects. Can be used as a better replacement for you tactical flashlights.

Cons: May overheat a little of left on high for a long time. I guess 4.2v is a little low compared to other LEDs. Some frames are wobbly, but that's very rare. Strobe ans SOS are kind of useless to me.

Other: Overall, it is a wonderful product to buy that is easy to use.

  • Great P60 replacment!

    posted by 187penguin on 21:16:44 G7T 19/07/2012 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Very Bright! All setting work well, especially the power levels. No flicker or anything. Memory Function works as advertised Great speed for tac strobe. Disorientating as hell! Way to many strobes flash too slow. It would be nice if it was a little faster, but it is better than most! Nice Aluminum Reflector

Cons: Does get warm in my T.O.P. 6V Xenon Tactical Flashlight after a few minutes. I had to file down reflector a bit to fit.

Other: Great Lamp! Defiantly brighter than the Surefire P60 it replaced.

    Pros: Cree XML-T6

Cons: The LED is not centered well. Its almost impossible to center the LED manually, because the LED pad is firmly glued in. The LED driver has no current regulation at all.

Other: I am very disappointed if this module.

  • Very Bright, but Strobe and SOS useless

posted by Rapini on 17:22:40 G12T 29/12/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Very good light. It's bright (brighter than my huge MagLite) and has adjustable brightness (HI-MED-LOW). It does get a little warm after 5 minutes of use, but never hot.

Cons: After about 3 weeks of use the feature switching has become iffy. Most of the time it switches properly but every once in a while it will go bananas and start switching modes randomly or instead of strobe it will do 3 dim short flashes and then one long bright flash.
The SOS and Strobe functions are a waste of time. In my opinion they make cycling through the modes a lot more time-consuming and cumbersome. Hi-Med-Low should be the only functions on here.

Other: This drop-in is an amazing value for your money even if it does have too many modes, and occasionally tends to do it's own thing. You can build a great flash-light that EVERYONE will be jealous of for less than $30 that will perform (notwithstanding the hiccups) like a $200 light. If you need variable lighting this is the drop-in for you.

  • Superb! a must have

Pros: A great step up from the XPG-R5 drop in module.
It has a superb and bright centre beam which is easily as good as the R5, however it has a HUGE amount more spill - which is really great for use on the bicycle.
I'd easily put it against my 900lm SSCP7, and its a fraction of the size.
Doesnt get too hot either which is always a good sign
Build quality is fine, it drops straight in to all my torches with no issues - a nice firm fit with no looseness or wobble.

Cons: No real cons that i have come across

Other: Unless you want only a small amount of light, you'd be crazy to go for any other P60 drop in!

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Dropped it in my older R2 Ultafire host and it worked. Being that I don't yet have a charger for the protected ultafire batteries, I simply solar charged them with no idea of the state of charge, still very bright, the spot is quite a bit wider than the Eastward 900 lumen, But that means better for me, since it is so bright anyways. The spill is slightly wider too.
The bright and fast strobe is pretty cool! The med is, well med, and the low is really cool because it's low enough to be called dim, with no noticeable PWM flicker, even!

Cons: Make sure the heatsink/pill deal is tightly screwed into the reflector, for obvious reasons. Oh and the annoying SOS, wish I could get rid of it! Should be just as it is high, med, low and strobe.

    Other: Works...

Pros: Very bright. No artifacts. Memory works.

Cons: A bit pricey, but may still be the best value on the market.

Other: If you have a tactical flashlight, do not hesitate to buy this drop-in as a spare or even upgrade. Save original lamp as replacement. Very bright. Blinding 5-6 out of 10. 10 being 500,000 candle power aircraft landing light.

  • The brightest drop in for a Ultrafire wf 501b host

posted by lasermanathome on 06:37:42 G3T 16/03/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: I have never seen more light comming out a Ultrafire WF 501 b than with this emitter. The throw is a little less than with a 350lumen type 5 but that should not be considered as a cons. The beam is bigger but as powerfull as the type 5 When the beamdivergence would be the same as with r2 it ligthts should light out about a kilometer and would dazzle all people who look even at far distance in the beam of this flashlight.

    Cons: None

Other: With 3000mA 18650 cells you have the full amount of light for about 2 hours. The flashlight istselve does not become very hot , the emitter has a lot of overcapacity. For flashlight adicted people this is a must have. For normal people this is a flashlight you should keep under close adult supervision.

  • very bright

posted by Hobbyfotograaf on 13:38:54 G3T 09/03/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Very bright. Memory mode works perfect. Not driven to the maximum of the led, for me that's better than full power (= 3A) with a greater risk for overheating and even overloading the lithium-ion battery (that is also dangerous). Fast strobe = really fast SOS = real SOS High = very bright Low = very low with a freshly charged (4,2V) Protected Trustfire 18650 (blue 2500mAh): High = 1,26A Mid = 0,37A Low = 0,03A (=very long runtime!!)

    Cons: None

Other: Brighter than Ultrafire P10-R5, bigger hotspot. The hotspot is smaller than the MTE SSC P7-C that is have used on my bicycle, i think this woud be better for that use (but now i have a Magicshine for the "nightrides"). The color is very good, warmer than the Ultrafire. With a good heatsinking this should be very reliable because it does not drive the led (and the 18650) to the maximum power. On High (= about 5 Watt), most flashlights that fit this module will have enough surface to get rid of the heat. It will become very hot, but the LED should not overheat too fast. There is some regulation, with a partial discharged battery the current stays about the same: Battery at 3,8V High = 1,24A Mid = 0,37A Low = 0,03A
