  • Poor assembly quality

posted by DJGate on 00:18:25 G7T 02/07/2012 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Low cost, good length, nice look, mini-USB instead of 1 USB-A female (great for external HDD), 3 USB-A female

Cons: Very poor assembly quality, USB-A female plug disassembly by hands (see photos). Internal assembly terrible (see photos).

Other: After receiving this hub, I'm recommend to soldering all cables and connectors by yourself, and it's will be useful gadget! With this assembly quality price may be more lower (about $2-3), and this SKU in this case will be great. p.s. Sorry for my English, I'm Russian.

  • Good item for its money

Pros: Good item for your laptop in case you don't have sufficient amount of USB ports. Works fast and and has the ability to double the current (500mA x2) so you can use it for fast charging your PDA or to connect power dependant hardware.

Cons: After 2 months of use I had to re-solder 2 broken wires. Conclusion: the outer tube of wires is too hard and not flexible enough for intensive usage.

Other: Works well when new, later you will have to solve the problem with hard wires

  • Good hub and good price

posted by glpmBrz on 15:57:14 G2T 14/02/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: This is a good accessory to carry with a notebook. Worked very nicely. The leads to the usb connector provide some flexibility in positioning the hub near a laptop, for instance. The extra connector with a small usb is a nice addition. Beyoud the connector to the USB, there is another one ( red ) that is used only to reinforce the power.

Cons: Feels very fragile. I opened mine and saw that the wires soldering is not very well made. The wires are placed very near one to each other in the edge of the pc, so that a short circuit is easy to happen.

    Other: Good purchase.

  • Random cut outs

posted by Cheaplightning on 08:09:09 G12T 07/12/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Compact and has 3 standard ports and one mini port means I do not have to carry around a mini cable for my cell or camera.

Cons: It seems to randomly cut out from time to time. Others here have said 2 hours. For some devices that probably wont matter too much but for me tethering my cell means I loose my net connection like back in the dailup days when mom would pick up the phone. "MOM IM ON THE INTERNET!"

Other: I would not buy another if mine died.

  • USB 2.0, combined power

    posted by hector69 on 14:24:08 G7T 07/07/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: USB 2.0, high-power output, can be used with multiple high-current devices without overload problems.

Cons: a 4 port USB hub would have been better choice rather than a mini USB port. mine came with some sort of glued piece of paper on one of the ports. bad quality check?

Other: great price, great hub. powers multiple high-powered devices without overloading itself. a must-have for everyone.

Pros: -it's just another 4-port-USB hub

    Cons: -doesn't work as advertised
-can't actually provide 1amp when both red and black were inserted
    -may be it's my notebook

Other: -mine just works like any normal 4-port USB hub
-can't even power a USB Tv tuner and a webcam at the same time and windows gave out an error every time I tried to connect the red lead

  • It fried my camera :|

posted by Grogdor on 20:39:37 G5T 07/05/2010 certificated customer

Pros: Seemed like a great idea to expand my Macbook's two USB ports. The mini-USB connector seemed perfect for my external hard drive. Can't go wrong with the price, or so I thought...

Cons: It may be my Macbook that's not providing enough power, but this thing won't run any useful amount of devices. Usually, with just two ports, I run an external hard drive on one port, and something else (32GB USB key, keyboard, whatever) on the other port. With this hub, even two devices that would normally work have trouble and drop off intermittently. I had a keyboard plugged into one port and was pulling pictures off my Canon SD600 camera. Both devices dropped off USB for about 30secs, and now my camera won't connect to any machine over USB. I'm kinda pissed, even though it was an old camera and I've been meaning to get a new P&S. Plastic molding on connectors isn't great. The metal edges of the connectors themselves aren't protected in any way and will get damaged by poor insertion or careless storage.

Other: Great idea but either crappy design or simply incompatible with my Macbook and Canon SD600 (both USB-compliant, non-$5-Korean-knockoff devices).

  • Great USB 2 hub for portable\laptop needs!

posted by MrZebedee on 00:45:19 G1T 14/01/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: + I bought this to expand my laptops' 4 USB ports because one's permanently playing host to a wireless micro receiver and I frequently use another for a bluetooth adapter.
+ Instantly identified and Plug n Play ready
    + Definately USB 2.0
+ USB mini is perfect for my external 2.5" HDDs and USB A female for USB sticks
+ This hub is a perfect replacement for all the USB leads that I previously had to carry.
+ Cable style assists convenient arrangement, particularly for awkward or bulky devices
+ Supplies 1 amp (with both cables connected) to feed power hungry USB powered devices - can easily supply external 2.5"\3.5" HDD PLUS several USB sticks simultaneously - how many ISOs you need loaded at once? ;)
+ The price man, check the price! It's only $5.30, similar items go for $20 - $30!

Cons: - Although this hub's fairly compact, the main body part is slightly more bulky than I expected but I don't really care because it trumps carrying all those cables I used to have; THAT was bulky.

Other: Got lotsa stuff queueing up for your limited number of sockets? Grab yourself this little sexapus and cram them all in at once!

  • Works great with laptop and iPhone

    posted by beezab78 on 09:29:04 G12T 25/12/2009 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Really great gadget! My laptop provides only 700ma which is not enough for my iPhone (requires about 1000ma). I had the always carry a powered hub (not that great when no AC power). But this works like a charm!

Cons: It clips. I would say about an hour or two of use, it shutdown and come back up 2 seconds after. There is a little red led that tells you when the powewr is good

Other: Wow, for extra usb power buy it right now

  • NOT usb 2.0

posted by raidenbr on 23:56:32 G9T 29/09/2009 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Nice build quality with a led indicating it's on. USB ports attaches well.

Cons: This is NOT USB 2.0. I was expecting usb 2.0 for using with my external hard drives but with both on the usb hub, the transfer rate between them is less than 1mb/s, so this is crappy.

Other: 3 USBs and 1 micro usb port. The package says it comes with a user manual but mine didn't. but who cares. Package says 480Mbps usb2.0 and bla bla bla but this is nothing but a cheap hub.
