  • Great value for money

posted by Bjorker on 15:53:20 G3T 05/03/2014 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Easy mounting, and easy use with arduino. Just connect the 5 volts and the out pin of the sensor to one of the arduino input ports. Out of the box a good sensing distance is around 1 cm, but it can be adjusted with the onboard potentiometer. An onboard LED lights up when the output is high, which makes it easy to test your project.

Cons: The potentiometer sticks out above the other components. A smaller potentiometer would be prefered.

Other: These sensor are very good value for money and can be used on a variety of project.

  • Well-built and fast IR sensor

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: High build quality, fast, comes with a LED on the board that shows a signal. Easy to set up using a microcontroller (in my case an arduino uno r3), works like a charm and no documentation is needed. Due to the onbuilt poti the sensor can be easily calibrated.

    Cons: None

Other: Nice Sensor, very cheap, also fast delivery and good build quality - nothing to say against it, does it's work as expected.

  • Works, with caveats.

Pros: IR proximity sensor. Cheap, saves labor.

Cons: Not particularly sensitive, but usable to detect an object being brought nearby, rather than detecting an object being placed between the sensor and a reflector far away.

Other: Useful if you have need for a cheap proximity sensor with a very limited range, or for something to play with. Not really useful for more demanding applications.

  • Very good sensor!

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Relatively cheap, can be used in many ways. Directly compatible with arduino, just connect vcc to 5V, grnd to grnd and out to whichever digital input pin you want. It sports a red led diode which is lit when a white object is detected - useful while prototyping.

Cons: -pins arrived bent. Potentiomenter arrived bent. -Not sure if this is a con, but it will detect any light colored object (a finger), not only black-white.

Other: Extremely easy to use, very useful and fun.

  • Line hunting sensor

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: This is a nice and compact sensor, build quality is good, connector is ready for a standard Dupont type plug. Price is very good, these sensors cost a multiple of this price when purchased locally.

Cons: The sensor does not have a Smitt trigger. This means that you will need a very "clean" signal, otherwise the start and end of the signal may cause fluttering. This makes the sensor useless when the signal is very rapid or very slow.

Other: Given the low price, this is a good sensor to play around with. Don't be disappointed if it turns out not to work properly in your application, because of the lack of the Smitt trigger logic.

Pros: I plan to use it in some of my odd jobs in order to do a number of experiments. Too early to talk about the results, but this sensor is very useful to me. It really easy to use with Arduino board in various projects. I recommend sthisensor to those who know how to apply it in DIY designs.

Cons: no significant defects. Got what I expected.

    Other: good luck!

  • Good universal reflective sensor

    posted by 2rb1lj on 07:32:45 G6T 08/06/2012 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: This is a simple and well working reflective sensor based on a LM393 comparator and a Vishay TCRT5000 (or similar) reflective optical sensor. Mine works from 2.95 Volts with a sensing distance about 5 mm.

Cons: The sensor is a little skewed on the PCB, but nothing that can't be corrected with a soldering iron. The variable potentiometer takes up too much space when mounting.

Other: Overall - God price and function.
