  • excellent replacement driver for a repair or upgrade

Pros: 1 mode, no annoying modes, great simple on/off driver Spare pads for another 7315 driver makes it quick and easy to update the output current. Another bonus is the ability to put a 4th amc7135 (upside down) between the existing 7135 and the empty pad allowing easy installment for a total of 4 without having to stack them, great for the r5 emitter.

Cons: the output wires could be thicker, as it's normally a 700mA driver they're fine for that current.

Other: great for the price and perfect for fixing any faulty drop in, perfect for a q5 as is and easy to update for a r5.

  • Works good. 3x 7135 chips as of Jan 2011

Pros: This is a very good regulator for driving one LED with 1x Li-ion or 3-4x NiMH. It is a LINEAR regulator, so excess voltage is burned off as heat. Normally that's bad for efficiency, but so long as you use 1xLi or 3xNi, there is very little voltage drop needed. Efficiency will start off at 85% with a full charge at 4.2V, and slowly increase to 97% as the battery voltage gets to LED Vf + dropout overhead (about 3.6V). My order as of Jan 2011 came with three chips, so the current output will be 1050mA (350mA per chip). This is perfect for driving a Cree XRE or Seoul P4 at maximum power. Also, my drivers look like the photo which DrJones posted, not DX's photos. There is a blank spot for a fourth chip so you can easily add a fourth chip and boost output to 1.4A. This would be good for driving a Cree XPG at close to it's maximum rating of 1.5A. You can also remove a chip and reduce power to 700mA, for example to drive a Cree MCE wired 4S1P or the internally wired 2S2P Lightkey 5W LED sku.4516 (with Vdd voltage reduction mod)

Cons: The version I received (3 chips with a 4th possible) lacks the input capacitor which the other version (2 chips with 3rd possible) includes. This shouldn't be an issue so long as you don't have the battery located too far away, and even then I'm still not sure it will be an issue.

Other: This is the ideal regulator for those projects where you want to drive series LEDs powered by an equal number of series Li-xx (or the equivalent 3x Ni-xx).

  • Not 1.2 A driver (2x amc7135)

    posted by Patrik28 on 14:04:14 G11T 17/11/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: - No fancy modes, just on-off driver - Provides 700mA for Cree Q5 (actually this isn't a good thing)

Cons: - You have to add a third amc7135 into the empty place on the pcb to get a 1A capable driver. But there is nothing to do to get this a 1.2A driver. - Solderings are bad: lots of tin and cold joints - The led wires are very thin

Other: Overall I'm disappointed, that I didn't got 3x7135 version. The info-text would need updating, because this can provide only 0.7A. At the next time, I need to order the old-type drivers froms rivals (aka 3x7135 with 1 empty place).

  • Rwview of what I got

Pros: Simple circuit using 7135 ICs

Cons: Not sure what you will get, some got boards with only two 7135s, my board had three 7135s. So not a 5W board.

Other: DX needs to confirm the exact specifications of this driver, so we know what we should be getting. A bit more quality control will help.
