  • Cheap, Bright, Works, Burns

posted by messitom on 12:10:24 G8T 06/08/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Small and fits into things well (host). This will burn when run on 3v (2 AA's) with the lenses removed. My wires were soldered on well. It IS focusable. Beam is visible in low light conditions and solid at night. I suspect (as others have stated) most of the power is IR light. Iam doubting this is truely 50mw but its plenty bright.

Cons: 1 month ship time to US from time of order.

Other: Worth the money! You cant go wrong here if you are looking for a module to replace a pen style or for a custom project.

  • 50mW 532nm Green Laser Module (3V 11.9mm)

posted by mustkivi on 06:11:46 G2T 11/02/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Ready to attach to power source. Bright enough to see beam in most lighting conditions. Small enough to fit into many types of enclosures.

Cons: If you value your eyes, get some goggles that cover 532, 808 and 1064nm... or use a piece of heat absorbing glass in front of the laser as a filter. Limited focusing range, leads need to be re-soldered right out of the package. Not truly 50mW output. 50mW Input current would be a more precise description.

  • Cheap and powerful

    posted by zak4000 on 03:50:26 G2T 02/02/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: *Very powerful, can easily see the beam indoors *Current draw is ~400mA from 5V USB, ~260mA from 4.5V 3x AA batteries. *Much quicker to burn stuff when powered by USB.

Cons: *Wires come off easily, but soldering them back on and adding a little bit of glue fixes that. *Transistor on the PCB gets hot quickly, trying to operate it using the button is going to be painful after a while, bypass the button and add an external switch.

    Other: It works.

  • Nice green laser pointer, works well

posted by bamsoft on 12:56:22 G1T 09/01/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: The laser pointer is very bright and gives a good geen narrow beam. I used it to point out stars to other people which works very well. Tried out to project a dot on a wall at a distance of >500 meters and this worked without problem!

Cons: The leads are too stiff. They broke off after bending them a few times. So i soldered some more flexible lead to the device.

    Other: fine tool

  • INFRARED BE CAREFUL

    posted by dleemiller on 18:54:33 G12T 18/12/2012

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

    Pros: Cheap. Powerful.

Cons: I measured 350mW of infrared light(!) coming out of this thing. The infrared light is not filtered. This is primarily an infrared laser with 50mW of green light. Could cause serious damage to your eyes even if you are wearing safety goggles for green.

Other: If you value your eyes, get some goggles that cover 532, 808 and 1064nm... or use a piece of heat absorbing glass in front of the laser as a filter.

  • Awesome!

    posted by ffta123 on 09:11:53 G11T 30/11/2012 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Easy to use/setup, can be focused, very bright, some burning ability. Great for doing F/X, general experimentation, astronomy.

Cons: As everyone says, wires come off easy, but easy fix in 2 seconds with a small soldering iron. Be prepared to do this right away.

Other: If you understand laser safety and basic electronics this is a great buy. It's a heck of a step up from 5mW laser pointer "toys". Safe to operate if you use common sense. I should have ordered 3pc instead of 1pc!

  • Good laser

posted by einyaa on 09:18:44 G11T 21/11/2012 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Strong, round beam visible indoor in daylight. Easy to screw off two lenses in order to access the KT-crystal. Here is the beam very thin, and can burn plastic instantly.

Cons: May be not full 50 mW green. Infrared light also present in output due to lack of filtering. Bad soldering of wires (the fall off easy, but easy to solder back). The driver board gets hot after a few seconds, but doesn't decrease laser power.

Other: A cheap DPSS laser with good power and beam for this price.

  • Get goggles

posted by mastertriangle on 03:03:15 G10T 18/10/2012 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Very powerful for the price (I would be happy paying more) and the package size. The driver circuit is excellent and will maintain constant power over a relatively large voltage range. Beam can be easily seen at night even with a bit of moon poking out.

Cons: The wires are crappy and fall off easily but new ones are easy to attach. The circuit board needs support if the button is to be used as the connections to the laser diode will not support it alone and will break. Needs cooling if it is to be used continuously. The cooling solution has to be attached to the the laser diode at back end of the module as the body does not conduct heat well enough to keep it cool from the front.

Other: Very good, rather dangerous, I like.

  • Powerfull green laser

posted by lasermanathome on 07:14:58 G8T 06/08/2012 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Have bought 3 pieces. Quality of beam and power are GOOD Divergence can be optimised. Two of these lasers are TEM00 (95%) Beam is polarised.

Cons: Watch out, infrared energy 808 and 1064nM is mixed with the 532green beam, the 1064 has the same divergence , the 808nM beam has a big divergence and is not really a problem. (have measured this with professional laserpowermeter and filters and I have viewed the IR beam divergence with Night Vision equipement.

Other: For Scientists with huge apsirations and low budget , : buy several of these lasers, the chance you get a laser with Laboratory class beam (have to apply IR filter)is big. You can apply Tec 23 Centigrades for optimal resonator convertor efficiency (Nd YVO4/KTP) and longer life for the 808 LD.
