  • Fine cheap soldering iron

posted by robindebrown on 04:51:50 G6T 23/06/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: It is cheap and it does what is supposed to do, it heats up quite fast. The tip is very thin so it is nice for small board work. I have this soldering iron for quite a while now and I use it a few times a month, it still work good and tip looks still nice

Cons: Tip became loose after a couple of times, not a real problem just screw it again. Plastic holder can become a bit hot after long use, but this not really a problem

Other: Its very good for if you solder something once in a while or just as an extra for traveling.

  • Good solder iron

Pros: This solder iron gets the job done. I don't need it really often so I decided to get a cheap one. I can solder with this pretty good, as long as you keep your tip clean and maintain it as you should. Small tip for soldering smaller areas.

Cons: The handle is made of hard plastic, as almost all other solder irons. There is however a small gap between the two halfs, but it is so small you almost don't notice it. But hey, for $6, what did you expect?

Other: For this price it is a steal!

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: This soldering iront is cheap and yet its quality is good enough. It is light and quite easy to handle and the cord length is OK. Heats up quickly.

Cons: I would not keep it switched ON for too long. The first time I used it the smoke was so smelly that I had to open the window to air the room (fortunately it did not last long). The handle tends to get a bit too warm after a while. Also the tip does not seem durable...

Other: 40 W is just fine and the thing does its job nicely.

Pros: Good soldering iron that gets the job done, price is pretty good (Don't forget the the price includes shipping),solid construction , 40W is enough for most light to medium-light jobs

Cons: The soldering tip rusts (the tip is replaceable)

Other: Nice cheap soldering iron, the soldering iron seems to be holding up to fine after

Pros: I used the soldering iron to change capacitor for my motherboard and it worked just fine! So even for detailed work it's a handy device!

Cons: The handel gets a little hot after long use (30 to 45 minutes), but that's it. If you switch it of for a few minutes it good to go again. To bad you don't have an indicator telling you when the solder is hot enough... you just have to try it out and see.

Other: A very good deal if you ask me. Very cheap and it gets the job done

Pros: This is a really good piece of soldering iron! To me, it has the perfect heat, and its very easy to use. Its perfect for a beginner who wants a cheaper soldering iron to learn the basics. I got one for myself and one for my stepdad, and he loves it to! It fits really good in your hand to.

Cons: The handle can become a little hot after a period of time. Its not very hot! But this draws the stars from a full pot.

Other: This is a perfect first soldering iron! I think everyone should

Pros: Works well Cheap Melts solder easily after initial warm-up Short warm up time (i think?) of around a minute

Cons: Odd fumes emitted when used for the first time. Probably not the most healthy. However, stops after awhile. A better grip could be provided, nearer to the solder tip.

Other: Is a very good kit to get started with DIY electronics. Soldering PCBs, wires and contactors is very easy with this.

Pros: Comfortable rubber handle. Heats very fast. Good for small to medium soldering. Nice sharp tip. I have already used it several times and seems tough enough. It is lightweight. It comes with European plug (220~240 Volt) so nu adapter required. Comfortable rubber handle. Heats very fast. The cord is flexible too

Cons: Handle warms up a bit after use. Smokes on first use, but disperses after a while. I got scared! The cable said 300v on it! So I was scared to use it! but its not, so all good ^^ I need a plug adapter to use this.

Other: - Good quality / price ratio. - Tip is exchangeable. - Lightweight and constructable rubber handle. - Good cord length and flexibility
