  • Common anode bright RGB LED

    posted by FabianKnapp87 on 11:52:14 G3T 18/03/2013 certificated customer

Pros: bright and easy to cool rgb led. Nice color mixing possible

Cons: ...still common cathode. This is a big problem for many drivers like the PT4115 because of sensing they can not be used in parallel.

Other: This RGB led is bright and each channel provide a good light. It is not so easy wiring up because of common cathode the main costs are the current sources. But at the end this led is able to generate every color.

  • My favourite LED

posted by Natancillus on 18:56:00 G3T 14/03/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Really bright led, in all colors. I had more than 3 of them. I buy this a lot of times, because it worth it, specially usefull for torch and lightsabers (yes, is bright enough for that kind of things) Can survive with few more volts than especify, thats really usefull if you dont want to buy cotrollers or drivers.

Cons: Gets hot, more leds more hot. So you will need a metal diffuser if you plan to keep that always turn on.

Other: Nice quality, and awesome price.

  • OMG!! 3 watts of red, blue, and green all in one!!

Pros: colors are great and very bright!! LED mounted on heat transfer star makes it easy to mount on bigger cooling products. (this must be done when running unit for more than 5 seconds)

Cons: positive and negative markings on star are opposite of what they should be runs very hot but thats to be expected for a 3 watt LED!!

Other: very nice unit. all colors are very bright and rich true colors. LED is mounted on a heat transfer star which must be mounted to a heat sink!! i love this unit and would recommend it to anyone loving LEDs. put this in a reflector and u got a awesome RGB flashlight

  • Very bright LED

Pros: Excellent LED! This little monster is surprisingly bright, just be ready to provide it with the juice it needs to run. The color is crisp and clear.

Cons: Very bright, almost painful to look at depending on your setup. I would suggest a dimming element to be used with this device. It also runs hot, but that is to be expected.

Other: Quality is as expected, very good!

Pros: Very bright Smooth colors Low power consumption Small Enough Good design Easy to use Easy to solder

    Cons: Heats up

Other: I recommend this for DIY lamps and other stuff like that I'm going to put this inside a plastic cube and make it fade with ATTiny84 and some transistors probably :)

Pros: Bright RGB LED, works great with an Arduino (also off DX, I combined that and a voltage regulator/LED 350ma driver circuit also off DX. - makes a nice ambient lighting LED and I can set the color patterns myself, make it respond to the room... planning to use some fiber optics along with this guy for a project soon, I think it'll be plenty bright.

Cons: The focal area is a little TOO clear and it doesn't mix smoothly at the edges, you see separate square areas for each color where they don't quite line up. Fixed by frosting the lens (I used sandpaper) so a fixable con but a somewhat more lengthy process so... Aluminum cooling unit has no thermal paste between it and the LED unless you add it so first you have to desolder it, then add in some compound and resolder it. Again, addressable but... should have something. The + and - labels are reversed, The one marked + is actually - and vice-versa. If I hadn't had an issue exactly like this in the past and if I hadn't tested it with a regulated circuit board, I might have lost an LED.

Other: Have bought before, will buy again. Recommend highly getting a driver circuit and possibly a lens if you want to set this up as a long-throw light? It's very very bright (especially red) and works quite well.

Pros: Very Bright Light, all the three items were working fine, is not necessary to soldering for testing, you can hook a wire and it will work, the viewing angle is good

Cons: No cons, I don't understand why in the minus you must connect current, and on each colour you must connect common.
I noticed that varying the current gradually changes the intensity but there is a big step near of the high intensity

Other: I like it, I'll use it for learning purposes, is not necessary to soldering for testing, you can hook a wire and it will work

  • Very powerful LED

    posted by masterl1nk on 12:11:10 G11T 30/11/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Very powerful RGB led, the colors blend seamlessly.
    Works with low voltage
Perfect to play with an Arduino board (I'm using an Arduino UNO board)
    Aluminium plate, dissipates heat.
Holes to screw it to the PCB

Cons: The screen is wrong, + and - symbols are interchanged. This LED is common anode. Simply change your transistors from NPN to PNP.
Each color draws a different current, so you cannot use a common resistor.

Other: Great and cheap product, in my country this product costs at least 3 more times

  • Eye-Melting Color!

posted by MJdub on 23:45:19 G9T 03/09/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: The most RGB light you can get for the price! Very bright -- needs some optics/diffusion. I've gotten five so far and they all work. They seem to be consistent and reliable. One, which I've used while testing several different (sloppily-made) circuits, has taken inadvertent bursts of up to 9 volts on several occasions. Very brief, but it still works!

Cons: Common anode, not cathode (incorrectly labeled)

Other: If you know how to light one of these up, and have some ideas of what to do with it, buy some!
