  • Great item for this price

    posted by olexandr.ivchenko on 14:35:52 G3T 03/03/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Quality is much better, than I was expecting for this price. Fits with cree xte on 20mm base. As it's made of plastic - it's very light, and can be easily glued to diode base. There is nothing much to say - it's doing job perfectly.

Cons: Packing is not very good - just simple cornet. One out of 30 had a small defect. Description didn't had height of item, so I had to wait for it before constructing the case. If anyone needs it - height is 15mm

Other: Overall - great product for it's price.

  • Easy to work with optics

posted by cappy on 08:49:18 G9T 14/09/2008 certificated customer

Pros: I have been building LED lights for MTB riding with these optics for quite some time now. I mainly use a 25mm copper pipe (for heat management), and a cree Q5 star emitter (not the best fit on these optics, and means you need to do a little bit of cutting on the optics). The legs on the optics line up nicely on the star, and some small screws will attach the star to the optics.
I really like how the legs on these optics are a nice and tight fit into the copper pipe - which means you can slot them into the pipe without needing glues etc. The standard optics have a nice flood and it is very easily removed.

Cons: Wished they fit Cree LEDs

Other: My pipe lights are like Dinotte mountain bike lights, but for a fraction of the cost.

  • Perfect optic for Cateye HL-EL100 mod

posted by desolder on 02:25:08 G7T 26/07/2008 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: I used this to mod a sadly weak 3x5mm LED Cateye HL-EL100. This optic is remarkably small and fits perfectly inside the body.
The beam is good for a bike light, meaning it's a wide spot. I measured the spot to be about 15 degrees wide, and the spill to be about 40 degrees wide. The beam is clean and doesn't have any dark rings.
The holder fits perfectly onto the Luxeon I and III. I haven't tried it on the SSC, but since they're very similar mechanically, it should work too.

Cons: The optic is a bit loose in the holder. Use a spot of epoxy or two part acrylic glue to hold it down. DON'T use cyanoacrylate glue (aka superglue). The fumes it gives off will fog up the optic.

Other: Good for when you need a wide spot, but not good for a thrower.

  • Cheap reflectors

    posted by c654321c on 19:18:07 G11T 10/11/2007 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Cheap reflectors that are small enough to fix several in a tight spot. You can pry off the white housing. Same reflectors as the tri-Led reflectors.

Cons: There seems to be wasted light that comes out of the side even with the white housing.

Other: These reflectors are decent because of the price but I have better reflectors at home, but I'm saving them for projects where I need all the lumens I can get.
