  • These are not easy to find anymore

Pros: Works as it should. Quality build is fine. I am using it already for a while and everything is perfect. Great for adding USB2 to older laptops with only usb 1.1. The card also doesn't stick out of the laptop wich is great.

Cons: The usb connectors are very tight to get in and a little bit under an angle.

Other: good quality, works like it should. Gives you usb 2 on machines that don't have it.

  • Very useful for old laptops

Pros: It is very easy to use, just plug and play. I use it on my very old laptop and I get the extras USB ports for my external HD and/or blu-ray. I really liked this product and it is very cheap.

Cons: It is kind of fragile. You should be careful when you use it and when you connect cables to it. But I believe it is durable.

Other: Very good product. Two thumbs up. Don't hesitate to buy the product. You will never find something equivalent for a better price.

  • Works well. But USB sockets are tight.

posted by akonstantinov on 15:36:34 G2T 26/02/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: I use it my old laptop running under Debial Linux to hook USB harddrive. So far so good. No failures detected. Installation was plug-and-play.

Cons: USB socket are a bit tight due to thin profile of that card. So be careful when inserting cables.

Other: I did not use additional power socket. This card was powering WiFi USB adapter quite well. And for external USB drive I used its own power supply. So I can't make any claims about its power capabilities. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • Great Purchase 4 that money!

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: - thin and light PCMCIA card - 2 USB 2.0 ports to your notebook - easy install under win 7 (Plug & play); under Win XP drivers included on cd - for power consuming devices additional power cable incl. (USB -> small power plug) - very useful from perspective of physical dimensions: no bulk out edge when card plugged in

Cons: - ports have no power voltage for you external HDD, you have to use additional cable to supply it! - sometimes a recognition problem under Win 7 after hibernation - not fully High Speed (480 Mbit/sec) ! (not recommended for data transfer from notebook HDD to external USB HDD)

Other: I recommend to buy this product: if you need some additional USB ports and your notebook has a free PCMCIA slot

Pros: i got this card for my old laptop that did not have a usb plug and it works great. all of my OS systems i have used accepts it the first time well worth the money in my opinion

Cons: the only con i have is that it drains the battery in my laptop very quickly if i don't have it pluged in to the ac adapter but that is not a big problem

Other: if you are like me and have a old laptop laying around that doesn't have a usb port and want to have one to use a wifi adapter it is well worth the money thanks DX

  • Low profile, high quality

posted by boober on 20:14:08 G4T 28/04/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: The thin PCMCIA controller that won't be stick outwards of Your laptop's casing. Real USB 2.0 High Speed as fast as Your PCMCIA controller allows it to be. RElatively powerful internal pulse 5V supply giving a suitable amount of power for WiFi dongle + 16G flashdrive or BT low-range adaptor. Very compact design, not extremally tight, but pretty good for continiously plugged low-power devices.

Cons: USB socket pins are just soldered to PCB inside with their ends, not fixed on card's casing. May be broken while time-to time bounding, but it takes time... Socket design is maybe the only possible in this compact form, but it's maybe the simplest and the cheapest at first. Works fine when plugged, but You should make some work to plug.
You cannot directly power an external harddisk from this USB, but it's the common case for any PCMCIA USB adapters. However, it has a 5V inlet socket to power it from mighty USB1.1 or AC-to-5VDC supply.

Other: It's a good buy for those who want to update their P-3 laptops to use modern and fast flashdrives and WiFi's and to save the machine's sleem design from different "bulbs" and "boobs" that conventional USB controller has. Also some a nice DIY trick with additional 3 USBs is allowable by it's internal chip.

  • 2x usb expansian card works very well

posted by emnemn on 18:07:12 G3T 05/03/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: works very well. Its very small, its fits exactly in my very small PCMCIA Expansion slot of my HP. So i am almost sure it fits in every other PC. I had only 2 USB slots 2.0. and whatever usb 2.0 Hub i bought it never worked. (3 times). But this card did the trick. its fully USB 2.0. speed is very well. Building quality is very well. but there are some cons

Cons: the output is normally 100 mA. just enough for a mouse or USB stick. NOT for harddisk, BUT the have made a good solution. There is a cable with it with one side a very little power supply connector and the other side a USB connector. Its no use to put thatb connector in another USB connector of couse. But if you ordered a power supply from 220 volt to usb 500mA/1Amp then it works fine with 1 or maybe 2 usb harddrives.

Other: if you always have problem to get real usb 2.0 ports, then this one will save your problem. But dont forget the adaptor if you need it for real power. Perfect product for a very good price.

  • Simple adding of USB 2.0 ports to old PC

posted by iamir on 23:43:46 G1T 14/01/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: It installs easily and functions well. No need for drivers under windows 7. Improves very much the ability to use old laptops.

Cons: Hard to slide it in and out.
The PCMCIA port does not provide enough power for certain portable USB HDD.

    Other: Good purchase.

  • it works but...

posted by DrNoel on 02:29:39 G5T 29/05/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

    Pros: -works like advertised(almost)
-fits in nice and flushed, looking like built-in USB ports
    -works with most devices: mouse,keyboard,USB 7.1 audio adapter,thumb drive(somewhat)
-windows recognized it as NEC chip

Cons: -have to use an AC to USB adapter to power it,still can't get it to work with webcam or USB TV tuner
-even after installing USB 2.0 drivers and reboot, file copy speed from attached 2GB sony microvault thumbdrive is very slow
-once,the laptop won't boot up with it inserted
-when pulling out USB leads, the device came out itself
-built quality is somewhat poor and mine was bent in the middle as they sent it but it still works
    -came in a bubble wrap

Other: -if you have an older laptop with PCMCIA slot and have many USB devices that you wish to use without having to remove the mouse or the keyboard or the webcam or thumb drives,it'd be very helpful but don't expect it to work 100% but at this price, who cares...I don't...
