  • A very usefull HDD Convertor

Pros: Easy of use Good Price

Cons: Not very good the quality but is acceptable

Other: considering all aspects I can safely say that, especially for work, is a great product at a pretty low price, very useful for the technician who wants to spend too much money with no expensive adapters, but also very useful for home use if you want to use an old HDD drive for laptop on a desktop PC.

Pros: Simple, very easily slips on the mini pata disk and regular pata cable, it is not much to say except it is secure and simple to use, you can even combine with other adapters and use it to convert in any direction because of the way the parallel connection works on this type of disks,

Cons: A little caution is necessary to find out the right orientation,

Other: If You want a silent disk in your desktop which has ATA controller, and have a small 2.5" one laying around, get this and transform your loud disk beast in a silent bunny :)

Pros: - cheap , easy to use , does the job well, it is very small with very Long Power connector.. and very very slim...

Cons: Hmmm it's a bit fragille and some connectors come curved so i have to strech them :). Also pins on power connecto on molex side are moving so you have to be patient to connect the connector, and on adapter side cables are very thin.

Other: Overall a nice product and you cant find it any cheaper.

Pros: - cheap - easy to use - does the job well

Cons: - build quality is not great, it's easy to bend the pins and the cable. Also you when inserting and/or removing connectors you must use some force to insert them.

Other: Good product and very cheap compared to local shops.

    Pros: Very cheap item.
    Works very very well!
Once connected, it works very well!
    And it is very small..

    Cons: I think it's a bit fragille.
It's a bit difficult to put on it the HardDrive..
We have to find what the correct side to connect.
It could have a small wall to be stronger.

Other: Well.. it's a very good item for the price!
It's small! It works very well...
Perfect for re-use an old 2.5hdd on a computer, for backup or anything else..

  • Small and slim cheap unit for experienced users

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Small-sized and slim IDE 40 - IDE 44 converter.
    Smallest one, actually.

    Cons: Not suitable for
    a) frequent insertion/extraction,
    b) usage in hostile enviroment: in small cases where wires has to be bent with force to fit in. (Works as lever - even small pressure may bend pins on hdd).
Hard to insert into IDE44 connector (2.5' hdd connector).
Also no safety pin in IDE44 part, so user has to guess hdd orientation. It may easily lead to hdd destruction (see review below).

Other: Considering cons, can be advised for experienced users only.

    - Long Power connector.

Cons: - Not marked in any way.
    - Feels like its going to brake.
    - A bit to long for my use

Other: Overall a nice product and you cant find it any cheaper;)

  • Fit and Forget

posted by gregwalton on 03:13:21 G6T 07/06/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: It does the job it is supposed to do, though with one important limitation (see the cons below). It also does that job more cheaply than any alternative I've seen. It's probably cheaper than making one yourself.

Cons: It really is suited to "fit and forget" applications. The construction of this adaptor isn't suitable for applications where you want to be plugging and unplugging it frequently - I'm sure it would break after not too long. In fact you need to be fairly careful putting it in place just the once.
Power connector on mine was a bit stiff too, but that's not a problem.

Other: In the appropriate application (which would be one where you just plug it all together and then leave it in place) it is a cheap and perfectly workable solution.

    posted by spand3x on 12:32:38 G7T 27/07/2009 certificated customer

Pros: It's small, that alone is five thumbs up from my point of view.
Cheap, you can get similar products cheaper, but the size really is worth it.
    Extremely easy to use.
Basic design makes it great for pretty much any use.

Cons: Slightly weak build quality, but considering that most uses for this is in enclosed electronics that doesn't actually matter much. Not good if you plan to be connecting/disconnecting all the time.

Other: I love it, bought several in case I need them for other things. If you need to connect a 2.5 drive to a 3.5 connector, look no further.

  • Cheap and flimsy, but works

    posted by Flud1zz on 05:04:15 G7T 08/07/2009 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: - Cheap, very very cheap.
    - It has a protected circuitboard rather then open wireing patches that could short-circuit.
    - Works flawlessly

Cons: - Does not have a "PIN1" indicator, need to "guess" which side is pin 1
    - Device feels very fragile

Other: It works, nothing special about it, all it does is rewire power and IDE signal to laptop disks, no chips or any other stuff. Does it's job.
Buy it! It can be very usefull if you want those small formfactor drives in a lowpower/silent PC.
