  • Noce cheap HDD Enclosure

    posted by Shunra1 on 11:24:22 G4T 21/04/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Seems pretty reliable (still works after 3 years), looks good, easy to install, comes with a protective 'leather' case, good price

Cons: not very fast, 'leather' case isn't durable

Other: A cheap external HDD enclosure that works

  • Nice looks, functional, hd installment takes some force, no usb 3

Pros: Low price, nice looks and strong built. I like how the led changes from red to green when the drive is reading/ writing. Case is nice and compact and fairly easy to open and close. Cable connections feel nice and sturdy and cable itself is loch enough.

Cons: Hardly any, but it has no usb3 but that is perfectly fine considering the price. Also, placing the drive took a little force, I was affraid to break the board but in the end managed to slight it in.

Other: Does what is should do, definitely a good buy

Pros: The product cover looks good. It's made of metal and seems to be resistant.

Cons: This case requires 2 USB connectors in your computer or USB hub. I'm not sure if it's related to the case itself, to the computer you're connecting it into or to the hard drive in the case. There's no foam or any other kind of soft material to protect your HD in the case, so be careful when carrying it from one place to another or you may hurt your equipment.

Other: It's not the cheapest product but the price ir fair.

  • Took out my dead laptop's hdd...

posted by ninnyP on 05:08:17 G1T 08/01/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: The case is stylish, compact, and a sweet black. The screws are black. The cable is black. There is also a solid silver branding on the front by OMATA. Actually, it just looks really good LOL. It is also easy to fix and use. Simply put your 2.5 SATA hdd into the case, screw it tight, hook up the usbs and you're ready to go. It coes with 8 screws, that's how secure it is.

Cons: None at the moment. I know alot of people had issues with the small screws. I guess.. I have small female hands so it's not a problem :D

Other: Worth your money if you are looking for a case for your salvaged hdd. Definitely is one that can last longer than the cheaper ones around here.

  • Works perfectly with Wii Homebrew

posted by teroan on 12:38:01 G1T 05/01/2013 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: I bought this to be used specifically with an 128GB SSD harddrive and Wii Homebrew. Both work flawlessly with this unit which is surprise considering how picky Wii is with external USB storage devices. The metal grill design is great for keeping the heat out of the case but it does expose the harddrive a bit. Fortunately they do include plastic protective sheets that you can place on both sides inside the case, however these are not really needed for SSD's in my opinion as there is much less exposed circuitry.

Cons: Dis/assemply requires 8 super small screws (4 on both sides) which can be a bit of pain. This could be improved with better design. Not really great in places if there is high risk of getting the unit dirty, wet, etc. because of the grill design.

Other: Great enclosure for the price.

  • Absolutely worth the price

posted by mkniskanen on 13:05:28 G3T 05/03/2012 certificated customer

Pros: Pretty well done, well packaged and easy to install. It took less than ten minutes to install the hard disk inside the box and test it. Up and running in less than quarter of an hour. Windows 7 immediately recognized the USB-TO-ATA board, installed the drivers and the disk was ready for use.

Cons: The tiny screws were pretty difficult to get in the correct holes and even in bright dayligh (black body, black screws, black holes).

Other: Well worth the price. Absolutely.

  • Good product, good quality

Pros: - Has a nice design.
    - Feels robust at touch: the metallic casing, the eight screws and the tight fit communicates an unrivaled robustness sensation.
    - Very very compact: you'll have a hard time in finding smaller enclosures.

Cons: - The "heat-sink design" lets you look inside the enclosure, which may ruin the design itself. You can improve it by inserting a plastic sheet with your own pattern instead of the transparent ones included.
    - A little difficult to assemble. The eight screws and tight fit, while giving a general sensation of robustness, will create some problem during your first trial to assemble it.

Other: The producer of this device seems to have put particular care into robustness and compactness. This enclosure is probably one of the best options if you are looking for these aspects.
While it's difficult to assemble the first time, its design and robustness feeling makes this problem really marginal.
A good product with an excellent price/quality rating.

  • Great USB HDD enclosure

posted by KenSag on 03:28:28 G10T 03/10/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: If you get stuck with a 2.5" HDD this is a great way to go...buy a cheap enclosure on DL :) This one in particular looks very nice. It's very slim and well... it works :)
Write & Read speed are OK... not the best but definitely ok for me.. i use this hdd as a TimeMachine backup drive.. so speed doesn't really matter

Cons: Inserting the HDD at first is a very tight fit.. i had to unscrew the logic board... put it together with the HDD then insert them both together (where normally you would just slip the HDD in diagonally into the logic board socket).. not a big deal tough.. i prefer it to have a tighter fit that a looser fit if you ask me

Other: This is a great enclosure in a very reasonable price... way cheaper than anything i found in stores. I would definitely buy another one if I get another 2.5" hdd.

  • Great 2,5" Sata Enclousre with good ventilation

posted by asasd on 17:32:05 G9T 08/09/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: I happened to have tho 2,5" sata disks laying around so I bought this enclosures and they are really great! Looks really good and work flawlessly! Great ventilation (My other HDD enclosure in solid alu get WAY hotter) Easy to assemble with the litte screwdriver which is included the box. It works flawlessly with Mac, Pc and Linux. Use it for my Wii also, works really great!

Cons: A bit hard to get the HDD in the plastic frame. You have to jiggle the HDD a bit to get in position. This is not an hot-swp enclosure. With 8 screws, it take some time to disassemble and assemble

Other: Buy this enclosure if you got some spare 2,5" Sata drive that you need as an external HDD

  • Cheap, simple and gets the job done...

posted by anarky on 21:03:03 G5T 21/05/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: This is a pretty useful (and cheap!) solution for anyone who needs USB access to their 2.5-inch SATA hard drives. Really compact, fairly simple design. The vent holes along the surface provide decent heat dissipation. Also includes an indicator light, which helps provide status of connection at a quick glance...

Cons: Might require two of your USB ports, depending on how much voltage your PC or laptop is providing (the USB cord is a "Y" cord with two heads). I'm not sure if it's fair to list this as a "con," because in all fairness, most of these things require either two USB ports, or 1 port and an external power supply.

Other: I've had this product for more than two years now, and it's a great solution that provides a USB interface for many of my old laptop hard drives. It's really cheap compared to retail products, but for $10 you can't expect an actual "dock" or hot-swappable cradle. If you just need to access a 2.5-inch HDD via USB, this is a great buy, provided nothing cheaper has been released since I bought it 2 years ago...
