Pros: - Good mode groups which can be disabled in-situ via the on/off switch. - LED out is actually easy to spot and to solder to though there is a neat by pass with the +ve by taking the LED out straight from the back. - Draws 1050mA across the voltage range. - Very small package size

Cons: Low mode is 5% not 10%. 10% would be more useful to me but this is a minor point.

Other: Will buy more for upgrades as they really are very useful for the 3.7V battery users.

  • Best driver for use with 1 lithium cell

    posted by Andrej86 on 08:03:52 G12T 24/12/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Probably the best linear / PWM driver board (on DX) for LEDs if it's driven from 1 lihium cell. The PCB design is great and allows you to add additional AMC7135 chip to increase output current to around 1.4A. Could be upgraded even to a 2.8A output if you stack additional 4 AMC7135 chips onto the original 4. Has many modes and a few intuitive functions. Built quality is excellent.

Cons: I don't see any major flaws. It is linear type driver but this is only in high mode so it think efficiency is not a big problem here.

Other: I highly recommend this driver if you use it with 1 lithium cell. It really comes in handy if you want to mod flashlights from DX.

  • Versatile board with expansion options

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Does as it is supposed to and delivers a constant current of 1A over very nearly the whole period of battery life (18650 batt.)
Has optional mode groups selection that I like because I dont like to go through the blinky modes for 99,9% of the times when I need a flashlight.
Seems well soldered and the layout is simple enough that I was able to put 1 more amc 7135 chip on one of them for overdriving a XP-E emitter and works flawlessly. And I can see that others are able to "piggyback" even more amc7135 chips to it but that is beyond my skill level though ;-)
I like the mode levels also, they seem well spaced and the low is good for close up work.

Cons: Hard to say since it works flawlessly even with my little "hack". Can hardly complain about the size since it should still be able to go into a flashlight :-)
Well if there is one thing then it is that it does not come with a little "manual" of where to solder the leads. Oh and the leads were really thin and short, but not more than what is normal for ready made flashlights of this current draw. So only real con is the lack of a "how to do"
Could have a lower low perhaps, for reading books and maps, but I find the low it has very useful so an axtra low would have to be made like an extra low mode.

Other: Great little item for the determined DIY flashlight modder. Soldering is a job worth preparing especially if you are only beginning to DIY these kind of things.
I would order more if I had more modding to do right now but I dont and I am very happy with the performance if this.
If they decide to offer a 2,8A version with the same mode spacing and user interface then it would be great for some XML lights. And I would be all over that for sure! But for XP-E/XP-G/XR-E this is the real deal to get (in this price range anyway, I dont really know about some of the pricier offerings others have)
    Love it!

Pros: Allows you to run LED without strobe modes
    Cool running
runs to stated specs i.e. supplies 1 amp @ 3.7V

Cons: Low mode is too low
Could do with more light levels but kept to different group maybe

Other: Excellent and worth every penny despite its shortcomings!

  • best board i found so far

posted by JimmiR on 13:08:17 G5T 07/05/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: good product for the item i use it for. the extra place for a amc7135 to boost it to 1400mA. it really does what the specs say it will do. the tiny13a IC is nice programmed and will remember the last use setting.

Cons: you have to know where you put your iron for the wires. But if you go find a datasheet on amc7135, it is not so hard to understand. waffeling it with other boards (normal) don't set the positive together because it is not the same. positive center on the normal board also have to be tiny13a driven. take a signal from the vdd and put it on the other board vdd.

Other: great board to make have. will order more and hope deal will not sell out this item. take a signal from the vdd and put it on the other board vdd. easy to expand.

  • works great

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: multible gruops. i bought this because of the constant current and the capability of not strobe/sos. but i have it if i need it. the pcb is soldered really good and works great. low-med-high mode is: 30mA-300mA-1050mA. the acm7135 chips needs 120mV to regulate the current and have overtemp protection.

Cons: only that there is no capacitor for the atmel pic so if the battery is disconnected for just a micro second, it will change mode (ex. i tabt my flashlight on the table.) just ad a 10uF and the problem is gone.

Other: really a great pcb. high frequency pwm and constant current regulation and no strobe and sos in my daily use.

  • No strobe if you don't want it

    posted by ERCCRE456 on 18:04:23 G11T 06/11/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: -No strobe! (if you're in the right group)
    -Tons of modes
    -Different mode groups
    -Extremely dim low
    -Maximum strength high
    -Mode memory

    Cons: -Hard to install
    -No directions
    -Slightly complicated
-You have to turn it off while the led is actually illuminated to switch modes or it restarts the mode setting

Other: If you don't like the strobe, but want to have it when you might need it, get this. It's pretty cool and you can use this instead of the only low-mid-high drivers.

  • Good board, works as advertised/

    posted by David18 on 18:51:25 G10T 16/10/2010 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Multi-modes in multiple groups. Easy to use interface. I used it with P60 set (SKU 5937) and Q5-WC emitter (SKU 11022) in a WF-504B (SKU 24200).

Cons: No instructions or documentation provided but can be found online. Soldering a little difficult due to small size of pads. Needed a little Dremel work to fit in SKU 5937 but that was easy and I did not have to remove much.

Other: Current draw at 3.7V is 950-1000mA with my setup.
Works as advertised and if you like multi-mode boards, a must-have.

Pros: - very small size, fits pretty much anywhere - quality looks good - plenty of modes, police strobe is very nice (maybe just a tad too slow) - gives 1050 - 320 - 75 mA (Hi-Md-Lo) - fits in X2000 :) - has mode memory (but I don't find that particularly useful) - has low voltage alarm - flashes slowly when below 3V - works perfectly with Cree XR-E R2 (current starts to decrease below 3,6 V) - plug and play :) worked upon instalation

Cons: - doesn't switch modes if left turned-on more than 2 seconds -> when you tap the switch, it stays on the same mode, so you need to tap it again (within 2 seconds), seems to be a function, but I don't like it - takes a while to change mode groups (5 seconds on low waiting for a flash)

Other: Buy it! You can't go wrong with the price.
