  • Extremely low quality product.

    Pros: Nothing.

Cons: Absolutely unusable solder wire! It heeds a high temperature (more than 330 dgr.) and only then starts to melt. I don't understand it, because regular Sn60/Pb40 begins to melt at 235 dgr! Next thing, this solder wets the soldered surfaces very bad and has a very poor adhesion. The flux inside the solder wire doesn't help! It just pollutes the soldered surfaces.

    Other: Not recommended to buy!

  • High heat and bad wetting

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

    Pros: Cheap.

Cons: The roll of soldering wire I received had no markings on it such as the pictures on this website, so basically a no name roll. I ordered it since the picture said 63% Sn which indicates it's a high content lead based soldering wire, but after using it I am in belief that is rubbish and it is in fact RoHS compliant soldering wire with higher melting point and bad wetting ability.

Other: Not happy, this is the second roll of soldering wire I buy here that is not soldering very well. Will not come close to for example Ersin Multicore solder wire.

  • Good affordable soldering wire

Pros: Affordable, good soldering wire with flux inside.

Cons: I guess it is unleaded thus you need higher temperature to use it well. Around 350 degrees centigrade is fine. It might not be a con though.

Other: The price is a bit cheaper here than in other electrics stores and the quality is good. Grab one or a few if you need it.

  • Good solder!!!

Pros: This is a very good solder wire. Easy to solder with it. Contain flux inside. Useful for small components. It really flows nice.Really good!!!

Cons: I can't think of any. Absolutely None!!! Only the price I think, could be a cheapest.

Other: Work well to solder small objects. I recommend the buy of this product. It is much easier to use for small components. The Flux is very good. My grade is 9 to "0.6mm Solder Wire (200g)".

  • Just what I was looking for

Pros: Object as described, it works as expected. Very thin wire, ideal for meticulous works. I fixed mi Nintendo DS Lite power switch with it. It has flux inside. The quality is not the highest and the joint doesn't shine too much... But it will do for me, I don't use it daily and just for small repairs.

Cons: Flange of reel was damaged by shipping in a standard bubble envelope, the same as others, but nothing important as long as the wire.

Other: Probably I will buy again if it runs out.

  • Hard to get good solder, this seems good enough

    posted by Danova3 on 12:55:16 G6T 04/06/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: Turned my soldering iron down to 650 and compared this solder (labeled by a sticker saying 2004643) to my trusty, 20yo 1lb reel of Kester "44" Rosin Core,63/37 0.031 diameter. Not a lot of difference. The Kester gave a shinier joint, but not much difference
Same melting point as the 63/37 Kester
Can't see any signs of rosin problems further into the reel (as reported by others) and certainly the amount of rosin in the outer layer seems good enough for me.

Cons: Flange of reel was damaged by shipping in a standard bubble envelope

Other: Hard to get solder which really works these days. When I was looking around the Shenzhen Electronics Mart last month I noticed a few booths selling just solder, but it never occurred to me that ROHS might cause a shortage of good hand-solder, so I didn't look at their wares. As it turned out, by the time I got home I had realized I needed to buy some from DealExtreme ASAP :)

  • I take that back, it is utterly useless

posted by lynxSnowCat on 13:28:20 G3T 18/03/2011 certificated customer

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: (as stated before) My colleagues nolonger bother me for solder wire.

Cons: (as stated before) Absurd level of impurity; Even the smallest joint produced dross that needs scraping off with a hot iron. The rosin core (if there was any) does not appear to run through the entire length of the spool. AND the quality is so bad that I've now reached a section where different meters of the solder behave radically differently. That's right: DIFFERENT SEGMENTS ARE OF DIFFERENT COMPOSITION! Somehow they've made somthing with no moving parts and no load absolutely unreliable.

Other: Do not buy except as scrap or to supply people who are stealing your solder. Product not as described. Product not consistent in quality. Product not reliable.

  • Good solder, not RoHS

posted by ClientSberbanka on 09:19:01 G10T 30/10/2010 certificated customer

Pros: + Extremely cheap (in Russia it costs x3 more).
    + Has flux inside.
+ This flux is enoughly active for soldering electronic components but may be not enoughly active for soldering metal dishes.
+ 200 g will be enough for a long time for a home use.
+ It is NOT lead-free, it is NOT RoHS and it is GREAT (see "Other Thoughts").

Cons: I can't think of any.

Other: Cheap and useful if a soldering iron is your second spoon. xD

Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)

Pros: There is a lot of this

Cons: This is not eutectic alloy (Sn63 Pb37)like shown in picture. In fact it has no label at all. It doesn't freeze isothermically thus it doesn't melt at single temperature. Surface is not shiny like it should be leading to impurities and more prone to crack with vibration. Don't use it on anything that could cause harm on failure. Result in not that clean than my previous solder(bad flux maybe) and there is less flux inside.

    Other: Dont buy it
