high power antenna Customers Reviews

  • Great product

    - It looks well built.- It works under linux (tested with backtrack 3).- It works very well! I bought this an a directional antenna (sku 37185), they work great together (BTW, it's the same manufacturer). I can connect to my friend's router in another building (about 500m far, clear area) and I get a strong signal (48dB). With my built-in WIFI card (an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN) I get only 83dB of signal!
    - It's not a cheap WIFI card.
I'm not a wireless specialist but I can say that buying a high power WIFI card may not solve your problem, you may consider using a directional antenna too.

Easy to connect and Windows XP and Windows 7 detects it immediately.
I purchased it and shipped to Canada. It does pick up a little more than the built in wireless setup in a Toshiba laptop. Has standard detachable antenna, will experiment with a better one when I have researched a few more well reviewed antennas.
You get a USB wireless receiver setup that I have now tested and made work with XP and Win 7. Reasonable price. Fast shipping. I was always happy with DealExtreme and I have found they ship faster than ever now.

    - Works under GNU/Linux - Connection seems a lot more stable compared to rtl8187 ones on linux- Works out of the box with hostapd ( didn't try heavy data transfer with hostapd , but it manages to create wpa2 AP and do authentication )- Build quality seems good
It has a led to disaply usage also if it is not visible on the photo, it is under the "150M" picture
It's a must if you want to do wifi connections with linux , rtl8187 based ones are VERY unstable cause of bad drivers, and does not support master mode
  • High power adapter

    posted by Maurinhosurf

Well, first of all, this is the most powerful adapter I've ever been able to get... :D
The Package contains an explanation on how to use the delivered (Chinese) Backtrack Boot-Disc. This explanation is in Chinese and English and very easy understandable...
Another Pro is, that this adapter lets you easily change the antenna, this comes very handy, as soon as you realize the first cons...
Why not delivering the holder together with the adapter? would have been so cool, to be able to easily mount the adapter to the backside of my Laptop... Now duck tape has to do the job :D
Well, another thought or to be honest, an advice: change the Antenna, I'm not the only user claiming that the antenna is really crap
This Adapter is really awesome for technical use, worked well under Windows XP, Windows 7, Linux Ubuntu 10.10 and Linux Backtrack 4R2. I haven't had to install the driver manually on any of the systems listed above. The signal strength is always top, but the Signal Quality was, due to the antenna, not always best. That's why i recommend you to buy any other antenna...
    I really like this Device
  • Strongest Wireless Adapter I have seen

    posted by TecKnight

This is a SWEET adapter. The reception is the best I have seen. To give you an idea how strong it is. I have a PC using an Atheros PCI adapter. I have a Cantenna (very strong directional wifi antenna) connected to it. I was getting 2-3 bars signal strength to my AP using a good piece of hardware and very strong antenna. When I used the stock antenna on my Atheros card, I was getting only 1-2 bars and was losing my connection at times. I simply plugged this G-Sky adapter into the USB port and my Windows 7 64 bit system immediately recognised the chipset and installed the generic Realtek 8187L 64 bit driver. I then pulled up the available wireless connections and this adapter was showing 5/5 bars signal strength for my AP! I was also seeing at least 10 networks I had never seen before! I connected to the AP and I am getting significantly more wireless bandwidth as well. I couldn't be happier with the performance of this adapter. I already have had 2 friends order one as well. This has a removable antenna on it connected to a standard reverse SMA connector. I can only imagine what kind of range I would get if I connected my cantenna to this adapter. It comes with an english/chinese getting started guide that actually was mostly a tutorial on using the Backtrack Penetration test bootable CD with this adapter. The Realtec 8187L is arguably the best USB adapter compatible with Backtrack. Mine came with a full size and a micro sized cd that I didn't even use since Windows has drivers for this chipset already.
This is a great portable adapter with reception that blows away any other adapter I have seen to date.
Get this. You will not be sorry.
