  • Handy external drive

Thoroughly tested the drive as soon as it arrived. It performed to specs on all tests. All supported formats confirmed. (ok, except a few exotic ones like high speed dvdram)Write performance is good and disks created by this drive are clean and read performance is excellent read by other drives.
This unit comes with 2 USB cables. One to power the drive and one to transfer data. My guess is that actually both suck power. Plug them into different USB ports, I mean one on one side, the other on the other side of your laptop (if you have such). I had problems with the drive becoming disconnected soon after spinning up the disk when I had it connected to two adjaicent USB ports. When I moved one cable to the other side of the laptop, the problem disappeared. However, the power consumption was also evident by the fact that the power supply to the laptop heated up significantly more then usual.
An excellent little external writer to have.

Tested for a hole day using 25gb verbatim 4x disks on a total of 4 bluray movies and 6 bluray 3d movies. the drive installed succesfully using windows 7 and no need for drivers from cd. used imgburn to burn movies from iso and bdmv files and folders. recived enough power from usb cable and did not have to use the external power.
in other thoughts i can think of is that i had to pay vat because they did not put a low value on parcel, i dont know why dealxtreme dont do this anymore. i know they did before.
It is cheap, it gets the job done, buy it and you wont regret ;)
  • It is slow but it works

The unit does everything it should do. It plays movies, data discs, works with CDs, DVDs and BDs. It saves data and video into discs without errors. I have saved many discs and all of them were successfully created.
Considering the price I paid, I can't complain. The unit works well and seems to be very reliable. The only problem that I encountered was the burning speed.
I would recommend this product to a friend. It takes a long time to save a disk but I have to accept it.
  • Cheap an small product

Works out of the box (no drivers needed, although shipped with drivers) on both Windows XP and Linux Mint 14. Linux was not advertised, but after some time for detection, it worked perfectly.
Box is cardboard and foam, not extremely pretty but protects the device correctly, I'm using it for storing the device.
Very small, easy to keep and travel with
  • Great product!!

Fair price for a good product. I use a iMac and its internal DVD has broken, so is reasonable to purchase an external DVD RW unit, cheaper than original from Apple and portable to use with another PC/laptop. It is rubber covered (not easy to slip on a table surface). To Mac OS X 10.8, no driver needed, just plug and use.
There are cheaper dvd reader-only, and others reader-writer, but I confess I trust on Toshiba label.
Good external optical drive, make sense to replace internal optical drives: price, portable, several devices.
