express card 54mm Customers Reviews

  • Decent bit of kit

    - Does what it's supposed to- Fits flush with the side of your laptop- Cheap
This card uses a Renesas (NEC) chipset which works OK but is neither as fast or as power efficient as the Fresco Logic ones. Build quality isn't good - on my unit, one port if very tight, the other is very loose.
If you need two USB3.0 ports on your laptop, then this is a good solution. However, if you only need a single port, I think sku.48005 is a better card.
  • Must have adapter for suited laptop

Works for any operating system on notebook with 54mm express card slot. Driver CD is included but I didn't needed any with Windows 7.
The card runs hot during use (especially, in my laptop, because it's plugs in on top of my hard drive). When using with two external hard drives, the battery life gets reduced. Need to hold the card itself when pluging or unpluging it, to avoid damaging the card.
You could use fast external drive as boot drive, or a couple of hardrives as a storage for your laptop with this express card.
  • Perfect 3.0 card adapter

I got the AKE 54mm Express Card to 2-Port USB 3.0 Card Adapter last week, installed the driver, plugged it in (win7) my Dell E6400 and it worked. Two 3.0 ports.
Nothing for the price it is perfect. Got it in three weeks, packaging was undamaged.
Get the AKE 54mm Express Card to 2-Port USB 3.0 Card Adapter if you need this sort of expansion
  • Works seemlessly under GNU/Linux

I plugged it into my laptop then plugged my new USB3 external drive and there it was. Unplugging and replugging also seemed to work just fine. The drive was happy to pull all its power from the single USB3 connector even without using the extra power cable that comes with the card.
I have not yet tried to use the eSata part.
I like the fact that it does not stick out. Assuming the eSata part works as well, it's a great way to update a laptop's ports.
  • Works great!

Works for any notebook with 54mm express card slot.
The chipset is JMicron JM363 and comes with two E-sata ports.
Driver CD is included but I downloaded the latest drivers from JMicron's website.
I was able to get full SATA speed with external hard disk plugged to my notebook. USB2.0 is no match compared to SATA full speed.
Card is hot swappable so no restart needed, just plug in and take out anytime.
For 11 bucks, I would say this is a steal, a must have if your notebook comes with 54mm express card slot and doesnt come with E-SATA port.
You could use an external 7200rpm drive as boot drive for your laptop with this express card!
