  • Overall a happy purchase

Good value for money. Once programmed for your frequencies easy to use. Nice loud speaker for noisey environments. Small and light enough to go in pocket when working and cheap enough to worry too much if it gets dropped. Good being able to priority monitor 2 channels and good to be able to listen to FM broadcast station and still monitor priority frequency. A wideband VHF/UHF radio. Good reciever bandwith.
I would have preferred separate mic and earphone covers as I prefer just to monitor using earphone.Battery life seems OK to me, I have turned off the back lighting. Could have done without the LED torch. A tap point take off/connector to facilitate digital monitoring would have been good
Good value for money. I use it in noisy conditions on farm. Great for monitoring my local emergency services for fire etc
  • OK for the price

Build quality is rather good. The manual is easy to understand, and programming channels etc. isn't hard. Has a built-in 88-108MHz WFM receiver which is quite sensitive and has a decent sound quality. DTMF tones work well, not too silent like in some of the other radios apparently. Can listen to two frequencies at the same time and split operation is possible.
If you intend to work a lot of repeaters needing 1750Hz tone burst, I'd consider something else. Otherwise it seems like a good device.
  • UHF Radio

-Very nice build quality-5Watt high power output- Headset available by DX- Automatic squelch- Long range in open terrain(tested distance 8km)- Very long stand by period(I left it on all night and it still worked the day after)
Overall this is the best UHF one can buy for this money. If you need a sturdy radio that packs a lot of punch and has long standby time, buy it.
    Very good value for money.
  • Great for kids

Very cheap and hard wearing. I also found these the easiest to program as they work with various pieces of software.Does indeed tune from 400MHz and the flashlight is a nice touch for those camping.
If you program these into PMR frequencies (and reduce the power of course to stay legal ;o) they are excellent as toys and even then some for camping. They are not to be sniffed at.
Get one at least - they are that cheap but I think the BF888s are better in quality if you want to go for a quality radio.
